Different world down south. Quick trip to Manchester last night and back today. Just south of Tebay brilliant clear skies, hard all day frost south of Glasgow to very icy last few miles over the Struie , Bonar Bridge to Lairg

Snow tyres make a tremendous difference,we put snow tyres on girlfriends mini it’s now like a 4x4 until it gets too deep and grounds. Great fun to. As earlier comments try and avoid 1st gear and if going up hill try and stay in third and keep the revs up plus avoiding braking as much as you can.

I just keep going as fast as possible as long as there's no pedestrians or other vehicles. Once momentum's lost, it's hard to get back in slippy conditions.

Winter tyres are a must, or good all-seasons. Some brands are better than others.

Some rather spectacular lightning (I think!) here - bone dry oddly with a bright moon but 4 or 5 flashes lighting up the snow beautifully.

Coming from that narrow band. Some of the heavier stuff to the North will hopefully come  our way without raising the temps.

Nothing forecasted by met office unsurprisingly and unsurprisingly it’s snowing, I think tomorrow in these situations with snow showers it’s important to look at the radar rather than the forecast, met office are often wrong.

I would say the ongoing cold spell, now qualifies as historic?

Yellow weather alerts will apply in northern, central and southern Scotland until noon on Sunday.

Great stuff @Northern Strath you really are in a league of your own. Raining this morning down here (as expected) everything the wrong side of marginal. It’s definitely a day to be inland and with a bit of altitude if you’re after accumulating snow.

Heavy Snow at Straiton and settling quickly ❄️

Looking like rain and sleet later when the warm sector arrives so will enjoy the snow while it lasts

We're getting very light snow from that band too, can see it in the lampposts and there's a sprinkling of dandruff on top of the frost.

Recorded the snow from the St Andrews cam within the last hour

Definitely wasn't shown to be this many showers developing so early hence the Met have brought the warning time forward Screenshot-20221210-080146-Chrome.jpg I'd say that could be a positive sign for the main streamer action

Still plenty of snow lying here thus morning, but it's looking a bit on the wet side. Will no doubt survive for at least a week now given the temperature being forecast to barely get above freezing for the next week. Will have to make sure we get the driveway and paths cleared today before it all freezes solid.

It is something that is worth keeping an eye on for sure. The hemispheric set-up had a lot of the pieces in the right places for the developments to head that way. It's still a mile away but interesting that it's now been suggested. In with a shout at least 😉
