Yes we have had at least patches of snow lying in frost prone areas on the farm since the 8th of December. A real old-school winter in my eyes where snow comes and goes but never totally melts out.

Icy today on Deeside, finding out the hard way when I came crashing down to earth whilst leaving the house this morning. No time to nurse my bruised pride as I was meeting a friend for coffee but I wasn’t the only one to experience a slip and slide by all accounts.

Currently -0.8c, DP -2.0c, not entirely sure what the daytime high was due to issues with my broadband but it felt very raw outdoors with something that felt like freezing rain falling late morning.

Banchory is right on the edge of the weather warning so not holding out much hope of seeing anything from this particular event but will keep my fingers crossed.

Here I'll probably be recording lower amounts than the majority with only 5-10mm but you don't have to go much further west with 30-40mm the average and I see the Amber warning has been put out for @SW Saltire

A covering of snow here, not sure quite how much as still too dark to tell. Going to be an interesting drive down the A90, M74, M6 later.

It is to clear through by the early afternoon but roads are currently pretty horrendous to say the least.

We're in no hurry so it'll be early afternoon at best before we get south of the central belt, hopefully by then the worst will have passed.

Another pop-up snowfall overnight giving a decent covering. Temp currently 0.3°C and now raining. Roads a total state again.

Crappy day here again. Horizontal rain, 7.2c. On a brighter note the family arrived yesterday and will be here till Tuesday. New Year's Day looks reasonable so we might get a wee stretch o' the legs in before we head to the local hostelry for a few jars then head home for din dins. Some forecasts are stating snow up here tomorrow. Believe it when I see it! More likely to be sleety pish as per usual.

It's been a while since there was such a wild, wet and windy night. Woken by lashing rain and strong gusts at 4am and twice more again. Bedroom faces south... 

The result is an entirely flooded Tweed Valley - half a mile across of flowing water, more of an estuary than a river. Not sure how it's going downstream at Dawyck or Peebles... 

Then it looks like a few cold, potentially snowy days even this far south. Turning out to be an interesting winter!

Heavy wet snow has caused a bit of chaos in Highland Perthshire this morning. Combined with the high winds several trees have been brought down adding to the problems. Pics from between Aberfeldy and Grandtully for anyone travelling that way. Nit si bad further North and East once past Drummochter I an told. Turning to rain in places on lower ground so adding to the slush and surface water.

Rain easing off now after a very wet night. Not particularly windy here but the rain was incessant for hour after hour. Lots of flooding locally on the roads and from small watercourses. The Inverclyde area looks like is caught it pretty bad.

Well a wet n wild night here in Irvine.... Had to get my hairy ass up at 0800 as our purple bin had spewd various plastic trays tins and continental lager empties all over the street n neighbours gardens..neighbours now know I am an alchy..Bin man said the harbour side was a riot all the bins turned over n looked like Beirut.

Floods have cause widespread issues in the south of Scotland, with further alerts in the central belt.

M9 closed at Stirling too, currently sitting in queue of traffic approaching the junction the're diverting off at. Knew it'd be an interesting journey but thought main motorways would be Ok.

Most stations in the yellow rain warning area have recorded around 40-50mm of rain with 80mm near Moffat in the Amber area. Like others, we've had high winds and a lot of heavy rain overnight. I haven't been out today but there is a huge puddle behind the house! I've seen a few problems caused by the rain locally online, mostly under railway bridges where the drains tend to get clogged but other areas too.  We've had worse rain events but after a week of heavy rain it's no surprise there have been problems.

First day out since having the whole family knocked out from Christmas Eve onwards by a double whammy of Flu and, what is a new one on me, something called Respiratory Syncytial Virus.

Evil combination, and that is with everyone vaccinated.

Eye opener though as to how tenuous the healthcare system is at this time of year, just as well one of the kids relatives is a doctor.

Overnight low was 0c but warming up with the arrival of heavy rain from 3:30am onwards; clearing by 11am to leave some decent sunny intervals, generally light winds and a current temperature of 6c.

Rain front clearing to the SE...

Snow line on Green Hill around 320m (with that name I keep imagining there were some very bored Victorian Cartographers the day they mapped the area)...

Visiting the local bottle bank this morning was eye-opening as to the local predilection..

Snow level here about 1000 feet so tops of Cawdor hills very white. Been mostly dry and windy  in daylight hours but the rain of the last few days has got the woodside drains working again for the first time since June. Currently 5c

The course of the Tweed is normally a sliver of silver against the far hill (to the right looking north under the blue sky, or in the far distance under the grey cloud). But today she's a half mile wide fast flowing torrent. Noisy and quite the sight:

Usually happens two or three times a year... 

Another impact is that the M74's displaced traffic Is taking the A701 and it's unusually busy as a result. Not helped by the earlier flooding that's washed away half of the road just before Broughton village turning it into a single carriage way road. Marvellous.
