“Many in Lancashire…” not all.  He had already said 40cm in Pennine areas (some of which are in Lancashire).  He was making the point about marginality and local differences (didn’t mention it, but will have been thinking of the rain

Snowing in Manc. Not sticking though. Can can sometimes get a few cm with this type of front but not holding  my breath

Seems to have stepped up a gear. It’s settling on the paths now.

Very heavy now. Flicks gradually getting bigger as expected. Blowing around and strengthening winds, quite nice. 0.3°C

It's looking wonderful here and sticking nicely at 210m asl, C+F road which I can usually see down the Goyt is getting close to being shut although the majority around here are already described as being 'dicey' at best with most people opting out of travel. But the real fun doesn't begin until after 3pm 😄

About 5cm on cold surfaces here in Diggle so far. Roads clear. 0.5c at ~ 200m DP 0.1c

Interesting that moorside probably has less even at 300m local variations also mostly light stuff.

only now is it thickening up again

As @Backtrack said bigger flakes falling now too.

Will go either way from here on mate. It’ll either intensity further as more moisture is injected from mixing out of colder air, or it’ll turn to rain. Option 1 would probably bank us a decent covering. I’m favouring option 2 though unfortunately.

It won't turn to rain. Worst case scenario mixed with some ice pellets late afternoon.

Radar looks like the PPN is quite heavy heading our way and over us currently, who knows?🤔

I dunno- text forecast, warning analysis & automated forecasts all favour something more ‘wet’ of nature falling. We’re dangerously close to a +’itive isotherm also. Experience of the area tells me it’ll turn

Heaviest snow of the day now falling. I’d say we have till 3pm before we have a break

Whaley Moor webcam looks stunning.  Still no settling snow in Macc town 150 - 156m asl, snow visible all around though, can't make out where the snow line is.

Heavy again but it just isn't sticking to roads or pavements.

Met wouldn't know what an ice pellet was if it hit them in the face.

2cm has currently settled on open surfaces since 8am although oddly it's the side-roads which remain snow-free for now (usually it's the side-roads which are the first to be undrivable around these parts), not much visibility to be found but given the traffic reports i'm certainly pleased i'll be staying home for the next few days.

There is that 😂 all charts are unfavourable of snow after 3pm ish in my opinion.

We’ll see though. This is the ‘mighty north west’ our weather can defy all variables 😳

Looks sleety in Ormskirk now to be honest. Still holding out a bit of hope for tonight perhaps  but about ready to throw the towel in on this one. I’ll remember it for falling daylight snow but it’s a 0/10 for accumulation so far.
