Very light sleet in whitehaven, hopefully we manage a dusting early hours tomorrow

I visited Whitehaven last month. Any idea why the harbour was this colour? I gathered it was from rain washing sediment from the soil into the water.

These fairly beefy showers running all the way back into N Wales look like they maybe of interest to us. As the low tracks east they seem to be taking a more easterly track. The first batch just hit here with the heaviest snow of the day. Temperature and dew point both dropping.

Worth highlighting what the 06z WRF was forecasting in terms of snow cover for 3pm today (barely any in the NW) compare that with what’s forecast for tomorrow morning.

It’s potentially feasible that chances for lying snow will improve later. Wait and see before writing it off.

The centre of the Low is passing over now giving that S/W wind, Then winds will turn more Northerly with heavy snow and blizzards this evening and overnight into tomorrow morning for those in the Amber warning. Warnings may possibly get extended into the Midlands...

I wouldn't expect much on the ground in Manchester.

👍👍 See 06z WRF guidance - will see what happens. It takes exceptional circumstances to get an appreciable covering in town anyway.

Yes I realise. Just find it funny that we're getting snow showers from the SW.

Just wet and horrible here as it has been for the past 24 hours. The falling snow was pretty but when it doesn't settle its horrible underfoot on the grass. Just hope for a covering later!

This is what is expected as the wrap round occurs and heads south bringing the colder air back south quite a good chance many will wake to a good covering abeit temporary.

If this setup takes place during Xmas time it would've been different because of the low sun, etc.

I think the snow band will start to head south soon, judging by the radar. Fingers crossed.

Also the Sun will soon set in a couple of hours time as well.

If it pivots in the correct place there could be a lot of snow to come later, if.

south easterly winds across the region which is stifling snow just to the west of the Pennines.

once the wind switched easterly then the shadow will move with it.

When are we expecting that to happen?
