Loving the pics of snow on higher ground such as the Peak District so thought I would add in my own slightly less substantial contribution! 😜😄

Settling March snow is hard to get in lowland S Cheshire so it was good to see the 2-3cm wet covering we had this morning but the event could have and would have been so much better in different circumstances & if it had occurred in Mid Dec - Early Feb (peak Winter for low elevations) tomorrow night looks a wintry mess heavy sleet/ wet snow to rain at best here despite higher ground seeing a transitory top up of snow before maybe some more transitory wintry interest for all into next week 👀❄️

Next Tues looking a bit Cheshire Gappy 👀❄️🤞

The latest GFS is already looking better as that low on Monday approaches, the north westerly behind is going to pack a real punch!

The Cheshire Gap in a NW/ WNW/ NNW on the right side of marginal can be a real snow maker ironically much better than anything from the E.

So much going on mate, I think everyone will see snow at some point in the next 5 days either first time or again.

Amazing how quickly the front tore through once conditions became favourable for snow here 🙄

Yeah, went through at least an hour earlier than it said it would. Such a shame.

I don’t think it’ll be our last snow of the season in Cheshire  if current charts are to go by it’s just a shame it’s late enough  in the season to not see lying snow for any length of time as the early Spring sun strengthens & days get longer.

I'd laugh if this ended up being the main snow event for us

Bar probably 2000-2001 I have to say I don't remember lots of examples between 1997-2008 for there to be multiple snow events during a single winter/spring and certainly nothing came close to what we had in 2010, 2013, 2018 etc. After 2008 it seems to be more the norm now along with persistent very dry periods mixed with brief monsoonal rains. Climate change? weaker Atlantic? who knows. I always say before 1997 we was in a colder period winter and spring wise. However going forward to now a weaker Atlantic could mean summers like 2018 become more regular. Dry and hot. In a nutshell cold dry winters but with more snow and hot dry summers.

Any cold westerly / NW snow showers will do. Always best for Manc. Great to see Liverpool did so well. Just needs to be cold enough and can actually be a great place for snow

A NW'ly is especially good for south Manchester..... not normally all that great for here as I'm too far N and E in the city.... interesting how different wind directions can alter snow outcomes over relatively short distances in this city. For here in Tameside a proper easterly is best or NE'ly. What we had last night wasn't. It wasn't sourced from eastern Europe/Russia, it was a frontal event with cold air wrapped around it from the north. Give me a BFTE any day.

Its interesting isn't it. Yes Ive noticed times where manchester can fair well from the Irish Sea but not all Manc though.  You're so right about last night's weather pattern. All my life weather systems mirroring last night have never delivered for Manchester areas. Occasionally we may get a centimetre or 2 from them.  I stuck my neck out when my friends were all saying we would have a lot of snow and said it wouldn't happen. Glad I was right!😄 like you say its got to be a true easterly or North easterly or the very rare depression moving north south like 63 and 2010. Other than that we're screwed for mega snowfalls!!! Lived in West Yorkshire in 90's. Now they really cop it from last nights type of pattern. Think these forums have helped me understand why though a lot to learn still

I feel I should be in full on monitoring mode….however not over the dissapointment of “Hole gate” yet (yes I know it’s only the weather and I’m only joking - I think!).  Just can’t get enthusiastic.
