Wow, after looking primed to finally get a thunderstorm in Leeds it’s decided to change directions last minute East into Barnsley

Welsh cell has got a new core. Hopefully it can reactivate and develop something intense again.

Yes ,just looking at the radar , new cells popping up just southwest of Hay ,along the Black Mountains. ...

Well that was a fun-filled hour with the line of storms initiating overhead almost instantly as the rain began, something from nothing in the space of 20 minutes. Loud shotgun thunder with a strike less than 150 meters away that I visually saw and made one heck of a bang, most of the sferics looked to be more to the north over New Mills and Glossop as it gradually moved NEwards.

1hr after it all began the line of storms are still flickering away over what looks like Black Hill or upper Bleaklow.

Absolutely beautiful. Looks like a mesocycline but can't tell exactly. If it is then that's one of the most beautiful UK mesocyclones I've seen.

Thanks. No meso was just the leading edge with one of the best roll clouds I've ever seen!

Very occasional flashing to my north west but not really worth the effort of capturing

Edit: did hear one deep, but quiet boom of thunder earlier which technically makes this my 12th day of thunder, most I’ve seen in this part for a decent while.

Looks like a lot has been used up. Significantly losing steam now but still think some more random storms will pop up in places without storm taken energy.

I feel like there's quite a bit of unused cape around the West midlands/Worcestershire way, plenty of ACCAS round here before the sun went down. Just depends if any storm can use it. Storms in Wales currently look a little iffy but will see.

Unfortunately not able to see much today although i did catch the edge of the supercell near Rutland before getting stuck in traffic.  Saying that, im happy lots of people here got some great shots of the storms. Lets hope the 2023 storm season isnt over just yet 😄the MCS in October last year gives me some hope of being able to successfully chase something before the season ends.

Feels like we can extend storm season into October nowadays. However, also seems to come with a price of Spanish plumes being really dry. Wherever this plume came from, it's a lot more moisture than a Spanish plume in recent years and by that I mean, double the moisture in some areas.

Looking at the radar ,I think the burning embers of that spectacular  Welsh..storm ,are now dying out! Okay it wasn't the overhead storm some wanted but many enjoyed the amazing light show .....

As I look with my back to Chesterfield I can see lightening now to my west, but cannot see anything on any maps, unsure where it's from.

I wonder where they get their data from; certainly not the Blitzortung network!

Its weird, 2022 and 2023 both had a very convectively active May to early June period before storm activity completely fell off until August/September period. I mean i seem to remember July 2022 was almost completely devoid of storm activity while the late summer and early Autumn period had multiple systems move up from France. I guess we'll  see what 2024 does.

Storms are turning very elevated now, not much lightning will be picked up by detectors. So a few lightning strikes shown in an area might actually be a lot more.

Ziltch here today, great to see all the pics and video's though of everyone that's caught storms, some of them look huge and very active. Was amazed watching the lightning maps earlier seeing strikes every second or less.

Low risk. Not even posting it on here. Tuesday is there next risk likely to be more than a low risk.
