Looking at the radar, a bit of a clearance has reached here but looking outside, someone locally didn’t get the memo.

back to the radar again and it doesn’t look like the dry period will last long though with the next area of bright echoes heading in across the Irish Sea ready to give us another wet few hours.

Thankfully tomorrow is looking to be a better day, unless of course you live in the north west of England which once again looks likely to be in a pretty much constant shower stream for much of the day.

anyway last bit of packing then we’re heading off from east Lancs down the east Lancs, probably in the rain.

4.8 in the damp and gloomy marginals. Not quite tipped over the edge -yet. Shed jobs and a using up of left overs incoming. Looks like we've avoided weather warnings-just going to be wet. ....(again).

oooh just as writing can see a brighter bit of sky.

Can't see much cape associated with squall later so probably not much if any lightning although having said that there wasn't much cape last few days either.
tomorrow potentially more interesting convective action around the middle of the day.

Another horrible day wet cold and that awful half light ,roll on dusk so you don’t have to look at it

Yes, fret not.   It'll soon be dark and tine to close curtains.  However here it's a blessed plot at present -- only light rain today so far.  N Wales mountains shadowing us I suspect.

Only 3.6 mm picked up this morning 9GMT.

A side issue of this constant rain and cloud is serious lack of sunshine.  Keep up with the Vit D supplements  everyone.

Problems with drains in rail tunnels under  the Thames.   Water will find a way to go somewhere.   Maintaining field drainage is difficult in our wet climate, but fixing problems at great depth below the river must be a monster challenge.

Can I put a question out! Was the Jan 2010 snow event a polar depression moving N to S or was it more of a NW to SE flow off Irish Sea. Same question for the heavy snow on NYD 79? Keep reading about possible snow events coming from the south and hitting cold air in weeks to come. They really aren't Manchesters friend in my experience

Overcast and a bit damp here this morning, the Welsh Hills once again doing a good job of gobbling up the worst of the rain, so could be a lot worse. Just a bit gloomy and damp really.

Whilst the mad thread chase an ECM easterly it’s still raining & likely to remain unsettled into the first week of the New Year trending gradually drier & potentially closer to or slightly below average into next weekend.

That’s about as far as I would go for now lots to be resolved for how January & indeed the core of winter pans out happy New Years weekend all 😊 🥂  ✨

Yeah the phantom easterly will be gone on the next run. We'll see. Not going to get my hopes up for another 2018 repeat. Would be even more epic if it came in January this time instead of late Feb and that was decent enough but it won't happen.

Can’t see where and when the cold is coming from. Except a seasonal Hogmanay.

I think mid-late January and later into winter *could* turn interesting and wintry but think also some are getting ahead of themselves (as usual) any pattern change & notable changes in the feel of the weather will be second week of Jan w/c 8th Jan at the earliest. Some will just burn themselves out chasing potential and the ups and downs of each model run in the meantime.

Irrespective and not even worth debating at that range that is a bitterly cold chart, harsh overnight frosts and temperatures just above freezing by day, from next weekend it looks like it turning colder.

Squall line has arrived, absolutely lashing it down now. Think I'll delay my wander down to the corner shop.

Proper cloudburst now, torrential rain. Wind is relatively light though.

As anticipated another thoroughly wet day, in what has turned into a washout December - not one I will remember fondly with the exception of the foot of snow that fell on the 2nd Dec.

Tomorrow set to be wet again, capping off a wet 2023.

Hoping next weekend brings a change to settled and fine, and a return of frost.

Looks like Rochdale and Littleborough are going to get the most intense part of the squad line.

Wow that was some squall. Almost stopped for a woman and a child walking but they were already soaked.

You were supposed to avoid that puddle, not get them even wetter.😅
