Light snow Orpington/chelsfield border and 1 degree but with windchill feels much colder than that!.Could get interesting if that lot from Belgium comes over and hits us.my best mate lives in Belgium saying snowing heavily in Brussels as at 9.45.

It's a real shame convection is so shallow today, lower heights and we'd be looking at a proper event!

Having said that despite shallow convection the lower levels are rather saturated with much drier air above the cloud layer so the usual issues with evaporation etc shouldn't apply today in theory.

A few CM in the lucky spots by the end of the day possibly.

Are the temperatures not a bit high for settling snow?

Not sure if you've checked the radar recently, but I'd still class it as an event!

There's also round 2

Considering how lacking it has been with wintry weather from the east, and first part of Jan too!

Nope, had a 2 minute moderate snow shower about an hour ago and it began to settle immediately.

I always look at the dew points and they're low enough.

Your dew points currently at -2.

The vast majority of the lighter stuff probably doesn't actually exist, ideally need the darker blues/greens to see falling snow, anaprop is a fairly large issue in these situations.

Thank you, temperatures aren't the determining factor really but the dewpoint has played more of a role so far. The dewpoint has been cooled more w/the incoming colder uppers (not sure if it's in response to them) and heavier precipitation than the temperature response has been.

Really!?!...won't live long in my memory, maybe an event for January as they've been so useless since 2013.

Just because it won't live long in the memory, don't think that should discount it as an event. Especially w/much less of these streamer kind of events recently, it probably won't be much snow but still only seems to be happening once or twice a Winter now.
