After that wonderful 12z yesterday the 18 and 00 have decided to kill any hope dead!

On the plus side it does mean I can go to bed without sitting watching the lamp post/radar for the next couple of nights.

Looks like a nice mild spell coming up which I am more than happy with tbh, all this cold with no result is just making me sad!

I'd look at the track of that low on the radar, to the north of us right now 😏

It's very exciting.

Snow as low as chelmsford so far??

No chance! It would be biblical for the system to move that much.

Give me a bit of mild now and let me turn the heating off!

Very odd' -3c not a very hard frost. Currently at Work WD18 and it appears we have clouds now forming...not high cloud either. Who knows..snow events have always been eyes looking out.

The 00z Model Runs are not a Million miles away, from that 500hPa archive chart I posted the other Day of the severe Snowstorm that struck our Region, on the Evening of 30th December 1978.

 ICON 00z Weds 17th Jan 12z, 2024           00z 31st December 1978

But for the purposes of Snow for our Region, it might as well be!!

Those of you on our S.E. Coast may be able to take a Boat into the English Channel, and catch a Snowflake and wave the rest goodbye, as it disappears over Northern France.

Bitterly cold this morning in SE London and even Westminster. And yet it just about sums this winter period up that no matter how cold it was overnight, there is hardly a frost to be seen here. Can't even get a cold northerly blast to give us something that 'looks' like winter, Doh! 🙂

As mentioned earlier this morning, the air is too dry for frost. Even my breath is not showing as i walked along to work this morning. Still, i made up for that by having a fag and blowing the smoke out 🤣

I think it's because the air is so dry at the moment so little visible frost even when well below freezing.

I was surprised to see an overnight low of -6.3C - that's unusual on the coast.  In fact, the coldest overnight for us since Jan 2009.

The Met Office still going with a chance of light snow grazing the South Coast  tomorrow morning.

Just goes to show how extremely close and unlucky we are to something decent 😣

-6.1°C here at 8.30am! Now -5.3°C at 9.15. Very white and crunchy out! If only that low would come north....ground perfect to take falling snow "sigh"

I think this is one of the closest no shows we have had in a fair while. Hurts all the more

I still think this will be a now cast situation tbh. This morning's snow into the home counties has caught the models out to a certain degree. We can but watch and let the weather do it's thing.

Popped my head into the NW regional thread and was very surprised to see some saying that the couple of cm's they have is the most they've had since 2010. Makes me realise we've not had it too bad down here in comparison.

Think they have it worse than us to some extent.

The thing I will say is that it may not have settled even if it had fallen my friend in Normandy says they're expecting a mix of rain sleet and snow there so we'd probably be complaining about that rarely do Northerlies deliver anything decent roll on the February- March traditional Easterly chase I say...

Yep i think they do sometimes. Sheltered from snow showers in an easterly, often too far north for battleground snow, don't really benefit from snow showers in an artic northerly etc.
