Congrats NS.
Make sure to enjoy the time you have together as time goes by really fast. Can’t believe mine are 18 now. My house is basically a party house now. My daughter with her uni pals and boyfriend and son with girlfriend. He works at my work now as apprentice engineer. It’s a wild ride but you’ll love it.

back to weather it’s 7deg and a wee bit windy.

Great news NS! Congratulations 😊

Some very wild charts this morning for late tomorrow and early Monday. I think there is a possibility of a red warning being issued tomorrow if any of the following models were to verify.

In all seriousness, let's hope this downgrades a bit - that's pretty extreme.. Amber - yep, 100mph peak gust is surely red though?

Many thanks for those.  As you say…..classic, with an additional boost from the anticyclonic curvature over the top of the ridge giving stronger winds than suggested?

Squall line comes across in the middle of the night tonight, just as an aperitif for tomorrow's storm.

We still have mounds of slush and snow here but the roads (mind, not the pavements) are almost clear now.

Not a surface chart - but did find this https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/binaries/content/assets/metofficegovuk/pdf/weather/learn-about/uk-past-events/interesting/2003/record-breaking-maximum-temperatures---26_27-january-2003---met-office.pdf

Congrats @Northern Strath!

UKV is looking dangerous, up to 100mph winds into the west. It then looked like up to 110mph (I think, hard to see scale on phone) across the western Isles and along the north coast... Not sure if it will be a red warning with the timing of those gusts but it has the potential.

Congratulations @Northern Strath lovely news.

Not so lovely was today’s weather although the rain and dreich wind of morning faded to a mild greyness later. Temp maxed at 8.1c.

I'm sure we've had way over-egged wind speeds forecast for storms before now - but I can't remember which models are the culprits and I'm definitely going to be the mug that says they're over-egging it again this time because I've been caught on my own in an old house when a storm has passed through in the middle of the night. I didn't sleep a wink, I ended up under a table in the kitchen!

Looks horrendous for some places tomorrow night, potentially.

Also, @Northern Strath, I was looking for suitable Gaelic names with a snowy flavour and have so far failed. Sorry, I shouldn't interfere! Our boys were born in summer so I didn't even think about this!

Just a couple of days later there were severe blizzards in NE Scotland as an Arctic blast followed. Shows just how quickly things can change.

My youngest two were both born during biblical rain. One in Truro in Cornwall and one in Stirling. When I want to wind up Mr Snowidea (who was born near Glasgow) I remind him that his son is Cornish 🤣

Wind sounds like it's getting up already this evening. Much warmer though that's for certain.

My daughter was born in the middle of a snowstorm at 4am. All very nice but the midwife was Australian and had never seen snow... she threw the room windows wide open and let all the cauld and snaw in. It's a wonder I didnt get pneumonia! 🤣

Downright stormy out there just now, and that's with no weather warning...

Max of 6c today with the lying snow rapidly thawing, rain earlier adding to the snow cull.
