As part of the Northern storm naming group, Norway have named storm INGUNN. They just chose names for the event, there was PIA back in December named by the Danish Met. Sweden is also in this group.

Norway has had horrendous weather this week with gales, driving rain and ice at near the coasts with a HIGH avalanche risk.  The low will also impact northern parts of the UK on Wednesday, with two wind warnings in place, one with High impacts (low likelihood) possible for northern Scotland and the Islands

Norway has named Ingunn for stormy conditions on Wednesday night. Before that, the low will bring gales and a distinct band of heavy rain to northern UK on Wednesday.

Just been speaking with family near Trondheim, they have been battening down the hatches as such. They are concerned as the last time they had such conditions they lost their boathouse. Its unusual to hear them concerned about the weather.

They are expecting 35-50 metres per second 78-110mph according to their local weather reports

Good thing that one didn't take the same track as recent storms. 80-110mph would've brought widespread damage, it would've been one of the most severe storms to hit the UK in decades if it had been a few hundred miles south.

Hey guys. Do you see any impact of this storm on norwegian gas facilities? Be it production, LNG terminals, pipelines and so on? Thank you very much for your answer.

Our friends in Molde must not look at tv or social media much as until my daughter mentioned it to them yesterday they were not aware that it was happening. Now they are battening down the hatches!

Here wind is gusting and bringing in a bit of rain. Tay bridge down to cars and single decker busses only so must have exceeded 60mph but not 80mph when it closes completely.

Where does this rank in storm strength to hit the area? It looks to be a truly forbidding cyclogenisis.

Gusting 94mph on the Faroe Islands. The low passed just north of Faroes a couple of hours ago and continues to deepen on it's way to Norway.

That picture Jo posted certainly exudes an unmistakable air of ominous foreboding for Norway.

Surprised there was no rain warning issued, it's been battering it down here since 8am.

 Ghost of winters past

Crikey, that certainly puts the explosive in explosive cyclogenesis!

Looks like there might be 2 sting jets within the low, hence the incredibly strong gust in the Faroe Islands recently.

Quick flick through some 'stories' on snapmaps, not much at the moment, just a few from the Faroe Islands and assume one over sea below from an oil tanker.

Could someone more knowledgeable than I am explain why the recent storms we had, Isha and Jocelyn underwent their phase of deepening much further out over the Atlantic, whereas this Storm is doing so in our neck of the woods, so to speak.  I think Isha was a fully formed system over the US/Newfoundland and brought snow, would this have something to do with it?

I would think so, but as with Hurricanes they can develop into a Cat 4/5 be downgraded to a 1 or 2 and then strengthen again in a conducive environment over water.  Obviously different dynamics at play as these systems are extra tropical cyclones, just a little bit confused.  Thanks!
