Today

I received a PM this morning. I shall keep the name of the author private in case Mr L is reading in his Yorkshire home, but it went:-"Dear OON, I see that you haven't updated your blog recently. This makes me very sad because I find it so entertaining and feel that in some small way, it brings me closer to you, which is all I really want"How can I ignore such a plea?Went to Appleby's Co-op today and thought I'd just walked into 1970's Russia......awful shop. I got so fed up half way round that

R-r-r-rr-r-rrrr-revision...

Well, it's that time of year again. My finals begin on the 9th of May, and I have to do lots of revision, as I have been doing for the past few weeks. The problem with revision for exams is that there's no way of knowing whether you've really revised enough until you actually sit there in the exam. I have had a mix of revision and recreation time this Easter, whether I put too much emphasis on recreation remains to be seen, but I don't subscribe to the 6-hours-per-day revision routine. In my e

April 2005 Weather Summary

A very ordinary April on Tyneside, with the odd bit of sun, the odd bit of cloud, and the odd bit of rain.Overall, rainfall was above average due to a few excessively wet days (the 14th and 15th stick out), and sunshine was close to normal. As usual temperatures were above the long-term average but not excessively so.The events that stick out for me are a classic April day of sunshine and showers on the 6th, and the first snow in April since 2001 occurring on the 8th. Indeed, the last time we ha

March 2005 Weather Summary

This was definitely a month of two halves as far as temperatures were concerned. The first half of the month had a distinct northwest-southeast split, with the northwest having the lion's share of the sunshine and the southeast being cold and cloudy with wintry showers. Lancaster largely missed the snow again, but it did at least hold onto a good deal of sunshine. The 1st had some very heavy hail showers.Towards midmonth, and another northerly set in, producing some snow flurries on the 14th.

February 2005 Weather Summary

February 2005 was a month of two halves, although by weather type it was more like a month of three thirds. The first third was dry and mild throughout. A much-anticipated northerly fizzled out by the time of its anticipated arrival on the 6th, and there was a mix of dull dry days and sunny dry days. The middle third of the month featured a northerly which many of Net-weather's membership were pinning their hopes on, hoping for snow. Indeed, the northerly produced a remarkable amount of shower a

January 2005 Weather Summary

As promised, albeit somewhat overdue, I will be posting up my 2005 monthly weather summaries! The first third was mostly dry and cloudy while I was in Tyneside, with much mild dampness from the SW. The 1st was very exciting though, with some torrential rain at 5pm, and then some snow showers in the evening as the temperature fell from 5.3C to 2.2C in just five minutes. The last two thirds of the month were spent in Lancaster. There was a memorable gale on the day I came over, with much disruptio

Bank Holiday

At last the Bank Holiday is here I'm looking forward to doing some overdue work in the garden (if the rain stops). We've had some trees and branches cut down from next to the house and now the garden is covered in wood chippings.I'm mentally drained at the moment, working flat out at work 8am - 6pm most days and bringing work home. Hopefully it will get back to normal in 2 weeks but in the meantime I'm just wacked Going to try and get some time off in June and go to London for the weekend or

Weather Station

Someone has sent me a few photos of a council owned weather station near me. The data isn't publicly available so once I've finished all this coursework, I'll pop into to the enviroment department at Burnley Borough Council and persuade them to ask the IT department to sort something out after finding out which organisation is using it as all I've found out is that its for the weather conditions on Burnley's roads.Anyway here are the photo's for your perusal.

Car Trouble!!

Hi all my first entry! Took a drive to knockhill on sunday to see what was happening, turned out to be hot hatch day. Weather wasn't too bad, plenty of burger vans to help cure the sat night drinking sesh. Boyfriend decided to take his car on the track, (BMW 840 CI SPORT) there were loads of old bangers, so he was in his element with his little baby.I decided not to go on with him so his friend did, thankfully!! , He got about 5 laps round and the hose came off his radiator pipe,

The Weekend

Went to the football at Ipswich for the first time in over three years (well, it is a hell of a long way) and despite being born and bred Suffolk, it never ceases to amaze me how the word "Norwich" only has one syllable but the word "Town" has two.

Feeling Tired

I feel like all my energy has been sapped today. Mowed part of the lawn and had to give up I was totally wacked I was so tired this afternoon that I had to go to bed this afternoon, I think the long hours at work are catching up with me. Little fella has been running me ragged, he's suffering from Grandma withdrawal so is an attention junkie. Bless him, he's really good though and has the wickest laugh that no matter what he has done just cracks you up. He was messing about eating his lunch an

Baby Tooth

Dispite my advancing years I still have a baby tooth (new one never grew)It's been causing me lots of bother recently and I had to go back to the Dentist today. Events tried very hard to prevent me getting there. Broken down lorry on Sutton Bank and Diesel spill Then gridlock on White Horse Bank. Got there 10 mins late but still not too late to have root canal treatment He didn't manage to get all the stuff out so I have a "temporary" dressing (looks like a bit of chewing gum to me) and hav

Food.....

well...for the last few days, I have actually got my appetite back, so fingers crossed and here's hoping that I'm through the worst of the morning-afternoon sickness....was timed perfectly to coincide with my bestest friend taking me out for lunch to celebrate my birthday last week and the sproglet.Went to Momo, which is behind Regent Street, and it was absolutely gorgeous...for those of you that don't know, it's an extremely celeb-famous Moroccan restaurant, but what I love about it, is that ne

Yesterday And Today

It's long been my ambition to visit every major city on earth in the space of a week. This week I got close because yesterday I was in Newcastle (didn't see Ant & Dec) and today I was in Penrith (where I am known as "The Wizard From The South" for wearing a wrist-watch). Wore men's deodorant for the first time in ages this morning. I didn't realise white cans meant women's, but there you go. Getting very excited about my birthday on Saturday - but have yet to buy myself anything for it excep

Today

Went to Cockermouth to look at a new site, and had a chance to look round Wordsworth's house. Bloody daffodils everywhere...what's all that about then? Cockermouth's got a Sainsbury's which makes it posh in my eyes. Bought some jacket potatoes, but mainly so I could get a carrier bag to give to my next-door neighbour....he hangs them outside his windows to scare away house-martins and swallows from nesting in his eaves. Why he prefers to have carrier bags flapping around outside his house than n

Lovely Day.....

Well, we hired a car this weekend to go and check out some houses....saw 6 and all were wrong for one reason or another! But, as we had the car, we decided to treat ourselves to a day out in the country and went to the RSPB reserve at Sandy.....What a lovely place....beautiful gardens, a long walk thjrough heathland, woods and across an abandoned quarry (big sandstone cliffs with what appeared to be sand marten holes....will haev to go back there to have a look later in the year!).Saw a greater s

Strange Names

Went out deep into the Moors today. Dispite being just on the edge we seldom enjoy it Went to Malyen (sp) Spout in Goathland (where they film Heartbeat) and scrambled over rocks to see the "spout" (waterfall). The last time I went I was expecting my son and I can't believe I did that The weather has been kind, sunny with a bit of breeze. Many people seem to have had the same idea as us and so the roads have been very busy. Well back to work tomorrow. Not long to the next bank holiday (that's
