cheshire snow strange looking chart that, maybe one of the newspaper headline makers 400 mile mega snowblizzardweathertropdeathbomb that usually ends up with a millimetre of slush that’s gone in 10 minutes.

Some excitement in the Mad thread but again 10 days off-could we be in line for a late winter early spring major event? Personally i've got a sneaking feeling that a cold dry spring might be on the cards-which will be a sod 'cos it mucks up my veg gardening.

cheshireoak A cold March is fine and not too late for something notable just as long as it warms up in April. It'll never be proper warm throughout April it's still a bit early with the lag effect but I'd think by then most people want *some* days around 20c+ where you can sit out for a bit in the strengthening sun with friends/family, me one of them. It's normally happens most years so not an unrealistic expectation.

Dark Horse yeah agreed. Although I do find that a cold March can lead to a significant lag- aspect makes a difference. I've got a South facing set of beds which do ok regardless, but main area is north sloping so that does get delayed. We've had plum blossom frosts 3 of the last 4 years and I'm getting fed up of them!

cheshireoak yeah my bedroom is west facing so is roasting in the summer if the sun is out all afternoon. Even a few days in the low 20s can send it into the mid to upper 20s in there. Other bedroom is east facing so a bit cooler in summer but colder in the winter. Generally I prefer the west facing one as it's rarely boiling in there for too long and stays ok in the winter with a low bar on the radiator. So in general for comfort levels the west facing one is better overall through the year for me.

North facing is hell in evenings in heat! south must be cooler as the air coming in will likely be from the south, and sun goes off rooms around 5pm

I remember Atlantic 252 you've got it the wrong way round 🙂 the sun is on south facing rooms all day, so in June we're talking around 9:30pm that it's still there. That's not nice to cool down from given how early the sun rises then. North facing rooms will barely get any sun on them at all so will definitely be cooler. So south facing rooms are definitely the worst as you get the sun on them almost all day. 2nd worst is rooms that have a more westerly component especially SW and W as they get the afternoon sun. The former gets it from late morning. It's the solar heating that heats rooms up and that's correlated to which direction the room is facing.

wrightc23 Interesting -- always said in my family that if there's a big cold and snowy event  in the US then we'll have it 3 weeks later.  So that would take us into March when we we always have snow here, sometimes memorably heavy.

Rain Lady  It’s quite a common saying, I’ve heard for many years. However the opposite is often true, particularly if there’s a cold spell in the eastern half of the US as this means the thermal gradient powers up the jet stream and we get mild and wet.

Cracking tune, was theme tune for the smash series Cold Feet, can't get the song out of my head now 🙂

Had showers on and off all morning, 11°C, currently raining and grey.

A bit far out for me to get excited, but could some of us wake up to a bit of a dusting Thursday next week?

 Rush2019 You're a tease.

After last weeks very wet snow event, I'll keep my powder dry.

Going to Newcastle next Wednesday and York on the Friday. That should draw the attention of Sod's law.
