Using my 2 closest EA rain gauges, 2 miles north and 3 miles to my SE it looks like we’ve had around 30mm of rain here in the last 24 hours.

No other polite way to describe it other than horrible.

Dry and reasonably sunny for the last few hours in Newcastle.

Just setting off for Stalybridge. Looks relatively dry back home.

iand61 Yeah, thats been one of the worst days in bunch of bad 'uns. The wettest day of the month with 25mm and it continues a run of 11 days with rain. At least the weekend could be dry. A dry month seems a long while ago.

Tomorrow morning at least looks a wet affair heavy potentially squally rain moving through, heavy showers following marking the transition to a more seasonal feel to the weather to end February into March. Early March can be particularly chilly, showery & bleak despite the lengthening days.

A mixed day, moderate rain through the morning, by early afternoon it cleared and there was a great sunset with lingering light past 6pm, evidence of change in airmass.

As said looking forward to brighter skies and sunshine and white returning to the fell tops.

Took my socks off last night and found out that my feet had gone webbed (I know all my family is  from Cheshire-but still......) firewood jobs to do, garden jobs to do, house and shed maintenance jobs to do but just too wet. Getting fed up now even though daylight is stretching out and some signs of spring! Still expecting a cold, dry March though.

apologies all-rant over

Looks like the heaviest of the rain is clearing east from here now so hopefully our additional 10mm since midnight and close to 50mm in the last 24 hours won’t be added to much more.

Absolutely chucking it down here. The squall line woke me at around 4 or so and it was torrential. This looks slow moving too, can't see this clearing until mid morning but then another band of rain comes in. I'm sure there will be local floods now.

Weather-history at least we now have a record as certification for what has been a largely depressing 12 months of weather.

I dread to think where we would have been without the 5 weeks or so of dry and sunshine in May and June.

as for the present, I thought the clearance had reached here but it’s hammering it down again now😩

Heavy overnight rain which fortunately stopped as I headed for a paper at 7.30am. Dry at the moment but I don't think that's going to last, with the emphasis on potentially heavy showers throughout the day. Noticeably cooler despite the lack of wind.

Reports of flooding in the Harpur Hill area of Buxton this morning, the rain was relentless during the early hours of this morning and is already having a knock-on effect with lane closures on the M60+M62.

Weather-history that is an incredible stat, and it proves what many of us on here have already been saying. It has been a dire 12 months for rainfall. Unfortunately, its also backed up by the other wetter winters records you've given us.

What is concerning is that this is exactly what we've been told could be one of the outcomes through gradual climate change. Warmer air can hold more water, and that water is more likely to fall in those areas that see maritime air massess. We're right in the firing line.

It affects all of us, and more especially those that work outdoors. From my own perspective it is causing problems. My business installs building foundations, and wet ground conditions throughout a job can add 20% to the time it takes to complete. Add to that the miserable working conditions and you get an unhappy workforce and terrible productivity. Since last July its been grim working in the ground, and there doesn't seem to have been many 30 days periods with less than 200mm of rain.

It might be something we all have to adapt to, but its just another thing that adds to costs in a world where we're all already suffering inflated prices.
