Yea it woke me in the early hours. Rinse and repeat. Seems to be brightening up, but some small showers knocking about. I hope the mild temps and wind will help dry the ground a bit.

The latest forecasts are for ENSO to go neutral some time between now and June, then transition to La Niña.

A rather drab dank day so far here, drizzly rain at times and mostly low cloud. Winds are picking, we had a temp of 13.5 degrees an hour or so ago, down to 12.3 degrees now.

Showers since first thing up here with a bit of sunshine in between but so far it’s been more wet than bright.

feels pretty warm when the sun does put an appearance though and the wind which was howling in the early hours has thankfully dropped to little more than a breeze over the last few hours.

Yes, been a typical April day, sunshine and showers with some warmth.  Pleasant evening here, a bit blowy.  Didn't quite make 16°C at Rostherne, although Man Airport did.☀️☀️🙂

A few showers today, but we missed the worst of them here, a mix of clouds and sun, reached 16.3C.

Tomorrow looking like a good day for drying washing, if the showers can be dodged.

 Weather-history

its certainly raised the water table.

Was putting up new PE greenhouse on limestone chippings next to the lawn. We had a downpour so we sheltered inside. When the rain stopped we exited the greenhouse and the lawn was nearly under water.

Had Worse both my sisters gardens have been under water in parts for months.  One cut out a drainage channel to divert water flow off to the path, this worked initially, she is back to square one.  My other sister and brother in law had a suggestion  to to introduce hundreds of worms to their lawn, this they did just this week.  They had to make numerous holes and put the worms in by hand.  Interesting to see if this helps drainage.

A warmish but windy day across the region tomorrow warmest temps will be across the SE/ East Anglia but 16-18c likely across the region. Could see somewhere like Reaseheath Hall, Cheshire (Nantwich), Rostherne nr Knutsford, Cheshire & Hawarden, Flintshire, N Wales/ Cheshire border  reaching 18c with some sunshine.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
