Really mad winds,  squall passing over, I bet this has shaken a few from their slumbers. Been waiting to open my back door to get out and feed the birds.  Ooh the wind.

Just had a very blustery squall line come through Sandbach, with 6 or 7 flashes of lightning and loud thunder, some hail too. Unexpected as there wasn't a warning up here for thunderstorms so it was a nice surprise, although at 6am waking me up wasn't ideal lol

No thunder heard here. Mind you, it could have easily have been drowned out by the hail and rain that was lashing against the window.

Now we are into the perfect mid winter setup, showers feeding in from the WNW in a polar maritime flow, shame it's mid April.

Yes. Lively out there as reported elsewhere. Belting squall swept through had the Terriers barking so it was get up time.

Anyway here’s some Monday Museum Piece Machinery took yesterday out and about 🚲 when reasonably pleasant from a neighbouring village.

Can't see much more t&l from the showers today; not much instability... which is surprising given the very low t500s

Cheshire Freeze me too. 6.15am. I thought it was the bins moving around in the wind but then I saw a flash of lightning and one further rumble of thunder. Forecast was obviously spot on. Brightened up now but a gusty wind and more showers forecast for this part of the Region later.

Woken at 4am by torrential rain hammering the window. 7am spotted a break in the clouds and managed to get out with the owner just as the first rays of sunlight lit up the local woodland and it exploded into life. Amazing walk - towering cloudscapes, azure blue skies, crystal clear air and the heady scent of limes just coming into leaf.  45 minutes later and one of the darkest clouds I've ever seen appeared on the horizon. Made it back just as the downpour arrived.

Some squally showers this morning and really quite vicious gusts of wind recently.

Had some snow falling earlier, really vicious winds today. Strongest all winter I think in terms of the consistent nature.

I thought I heard thunder this morning as there was just the one deep rumble at 6am'ish although it was bin collection today and I couldn't tell if it was that, a bin being blown over, or the weather. The timing seems right however as the squall-line passed overhead not too long after it brought torrential rain with embedded hail and some squally gusts.

I've heard there's a wind warning issued for later on this evening into tonight? which no doubt means more interrupted sleep.

Out earlier into town, got caught in 2 hail showers, the wind slamming it into my face, it was freezing.  Definite winter feel than spring.

Never seen hail forced to the surface so hard it set car alarms off and the hills are white over,  what a noise it made.

The squall line that came through at 6am this morning set off a few car alarms. It's been a brutal day, had to go to Leeds this morning. Snowed just as I was leaving on the M621, temps down to 3 deg in the car.

Been a proper battering of April showers, eh?

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
