Sun Chaser it's definitely on-par with 2023. No improvement to the pattern.

Today was one of the sunniest mornings this month, and it clouded over by lunchtime, which says how low the bar is.

In Absence of True Seasons  Used to look forward to March so now it seems a little extreme that we've had the two dullest wettest Marches in decades in succession?

Metwatch A pal, who i've known since we were 16, has a place in Corralejo and he's been out there since Monday. We have over 7 weeks to wait.

i just want some dry weather for a few days, so i can get on with some jobs outside.

Sun Chaser Yes it has been very dull and quite wet at times but I don't think overall countrywide is as quite as wet as last March up to this point, some places will be in dark blue shades on the met office anomaly map though I can be sure of that

Sun Chaser I'm scared for March next year now. I used to look forward to it too. But it's looking like it's turning into November

baddie Models show it as a big dullfest. It's over and done with

Sun Chaser This makes me think of being on a car journey, as a child, saying “Are we nearly there?” And the answer was yes not far now. But it still seemed ages before we got there.
I’m hoping brighter days will eventually appear too.

A truly foul morning. Neither warm nor cool, dark, dull, not actually raining but just a moistness in the air that makes you get wet nonetheless.

Basically the type of conditions that are the negative stereotype of "British weather".

Sun Chaser it's always "next month", that's the issue.

Our climate manifests an eternal mindset of being frustrated with the present and wanting the future to come quicker with the hopes of said future being an improvement...

Which is really not mentally healthy in the long run.

Mar 1960 - 65.0 hours
Mar 1964 - 66.8 hours

Mar 2023 - 67.0 hours
Mar 2013 - 68.6 hours
Mar 1996 - 75.9 hours
Mar 2018 - 77.2 hours

25.3 hours here in the first 16 days.

The 10 dullest Marches here since 1980:

1996: 46hrs
1984: 49hrs
2005: 63hrs
1981: 66hrs
1991: 69hrs
2013: 77hrs
1998: 82hrs
2018: 83hrs
1980: 86hrs
1983: 87hrs

4.1 hours per day required to not end up in this list. What's also noteworthy is there are quite a few decent summers in these years.

Looking like a decent spring day tomorrow, something March 2023 didnt have. So far, there have only been 28 hours here in the first 16 days, but at least March 2024 would have a little bit more sunshine than March 2023

reef Surprised 2023 and 2006 arent in that list

baddie 2006 had 97 hours (95%) and 2023 had 119 hours (97%). Both were pretty average months for sunshine here.

Average March Sunshine for Coventry is 115.1 hours.

Sunniest on record is 176.4 hours 2009, dullest is 1984 with 41.6 hours.

Last March had 83 hours which was the 6th dullest since 1983, with 1998 the 5th dullest (81.6 hours). Other more dull ones are 1991, 1992, 1996 and 1988.

Another interesting fact is last March was the second time in records since 1895, where it was duller than both the preceeding January and February along with 1984. I wonder if this March will do the same, as this year so far January has recorded 88.7 hours and February has had 65.4 hours. March so far is at an extremely poor 35.5 hours with the total likely reaching around 40 hours after today.

Actually turned into a fairly springlike afternoon from the truly grim morning earlier.

15c and sunny spells.

The Octoberishness of today was profound. Mild, muggy and damp; dull for part of the day and some cloud breaks later, along with a constant nagging damp SW-ly breeze.

Josh Rubio Another day when the Midlands is beating the south, it seems... a few blue patches this afternoon but nothing quite like that!
