Surprised there wasn't a warning for the rain here yesterday. It was like driving through a river last night on the way home.

After a week or so of drying winds resulting in some of the low ground sandy fields on the way to Inverness blowing across the A96 we have a soaking wet morning Made a lot of progress in fields clearing stones off spring barley ground, Cold again with a NE wind and currently 5.5c

Really is a poor start to spring.

Soggy yesterday and today, though rain intermittent this afternoon with even some hints of brightness.

Cool at 6c with steady NW breeze.

Did someone say March weather is boring? We've had everything this week - including boring - from calm, warm and sunny to a proper blow, heavy showers and a tornado.

Ok, I made that last bit up.

Just waiting for a decent few drying days to get out in the garden soon, hopefully, although that's maybe a bit optimistic in March for here.

Lovely sunny morning here with the temperature having risen quite quickly from the low of -2C at 6AM to +7C now. Being March there is a bit of warmth in the sun now.

There was no gale forecast so why is there one currently howling round my house?

101_North Seems to be an astonishingly bizarre local effect!  Only 2 knots being reported at Met site.  Certainly worth you writing up a research paper.

And on a bewildering evening BBC Scotland online reporting that ‘The Old Grey Man of Ben Macdui’ is a phenomenon known as ‘the broken spectre’.  Should I be concerned that Google is more reliable than the EBC?

dryfie Ignoring the sarcasm in your reply 😜 I'm assuming a squall line or something embedded in the front that went though. Didn't last long but fair whistled round the house! The use of the word gale was probably overdoing it 🤣

Yes, as above, got to 12C in the sunny spells.  Been potting on yellow gentians this afternoon, fingers crossed I haven't killed them, the roots are so fragile.

The garden is a sodden mess in general though.

Much more like it, a good spring day with decent sunny spells, a max of 12c and a steady Southerly wind helping dry things out.

Not often you see a birch tree wrapped around a pine tree..

Still a bit grey and meh here, though when out with the dog earlier it was nice to see the trees starting to bud. There are daffodils out in the woods (my favourite flowers) and I had to tie my coat round my waist as it was mild. Spring is coming.

You jinxed it!

It was warm enough for a decent cycle ride today but the outlook for temps this far north is poor.

First hints of spring breaking through here in weather terms. Sun is a bit higher in the sky and has a bit of strength about it now. Still wary of some cold snaps so don’t want to put the big coat away too soon.

The mainly dry forecast from the Met well out today as everything is soaking wet thanks to heavy showers of rain in the last 90mins or so, with just some brief sunny intervals to compensate.

Currently 10c with a brisk NW wind making things feel a lot cooler than yesterday.

Even though weather not brilliant plants getting into the spring mood, Corydalis now in full bloom..

Some overnight showers then sunny intervals through the day with a fresh westerly breeze. A max of 14.8C before it started clouding over later this afternoon is my highest of the year so far.

Shocking news from Rheanbreck we have daffodil out at last yesterday, there were some out lower down in Lairg a few days ago but we have one or two out at last. Nice day today although I missed it as away looks less benign from now until after Easter.

After yesterday's high of nearly 15C today managed just half of that at 7.5C with cloud persisting until this evening. Cooler now at 3.5C

A look back at Scotlands recent extreme winter weather.

A programme that might be of some interest, although I don’t think it contained much that most people on here don’t already know! The sections with the Braemar MRT and also the guy behind the website below were quite interesting.
