  1. Yes getting some strong gusts now in Barry, can hear the roof starting to creak at times and the back windows starting to wistle. I imagine further up the top of my street a bit higher up and the lower parts of Barry by the coast are getting pretty rough right now.
  2. There is a constant roar here, im guessing its from the wind along the coast line and higher up as im about 20m lower down than some of the surrounding houses and land keeping me sheltered, very weird having that constant roar in the background.
  3. Worst of the winds still out towards Cornwall and Southern Ireland, winds starting to pick up here in the gusts, within the next 2hrs I'd say the worst of the wind will start and things will change
  4. Starting to get a few stronger gusts now, unfortunately living in a bit of a dip I won't be able to record the true strength of the wind.
  5. Not even had a gust over 30mph here yet, very calm so far and looks quite nice out, was expecting it to get quite bad already. Will see in the next hour or so if anything changes.
  6. I've been out and bought some tinned stuff and easy food to do on the gas hob just incase there is a power cut for any length of time. Fingers crossed I've just been over cautious, always best to over prepare though. Hopefully the gusts will max out at no more than 80mph for us.
  7. Well with talk of it deepening more rapidly than the forecasts and potential for it to be further north ( some say it is while others say its not?) It could get even worse for us on the South Coast than some of the predictions. If it continues as is with a drop of 23mb in 8hrs already, wouldn't surprise me to get a wider area of us seeing 85+mph gusts. Could be completely wrong though.
  8. It will be interesting to see how bad this actually goes, or if it ends up less severe, with the models swaying with its exact path still and wind speeds going up, then down, then up again etc. A selfish part of me would like to see an 80+mph gust as in my nearly 28 years on earth I can't recall really seeing any past 60-70mph.
  9. So just done a but if shopping to get stuff to make a bolognese and treated myself to a nice bottle of red, which was £15 that I'd seen a few times and wanted to try. As I'm going through the door home, the bottle falls out its nice case and smashes over the steps by the door. This Storm currently can not cause anymore damage than the emotional damage I feel right now
  10. Yes sorry its Ceredigion, Bridgend and RCT and the Vale have started stating they will be closed at the moment, as you say I expect more to announce closures soon, primarily in the red warning zone.
  11. BBC News - Storm Eunice: Schools shut, all trains cancelled in Wales Storm Eunice: Schools shut, all trains cancelled in Wales WWW.BBC.CO.UK Schools will close and trains cancelled on Friday after the red wind warning for Storm Eunice. Hopefully if more places can do the same then the risk coould be significantly reduced during rush hour!
  12. Just seen on BBC news that all schools will be closed in Wales tomorrow and all trains cancelled. Hopefully other businesses will do the same so there are less people travelling during rush hour when it's due to hit.
  13. Just looked at these from the UKV and some areas look like the gusts have weakened a bit, albeit still very strong. However looks to have strengthened for some of us in the SW and South Wales.
  14. Well living in Barry, directly on the South Wales coast, a town of 58,000 and with a small city of Cardiff with almost 500k and many large towns with 10-40,000 along the coast, I think its right that South Wales and parts of SW England have the red warning first as we will get hit first. As others have said, once Meto are more confident later, I'm sure the red will extend to other areas. As much as I like a good storm, I'm not overly sure I'm looking forward to tomorrow and the potential damage etc. Thankfully I'm off until Mondayso can stay in tomorrow.
  15. Not looking good for us, thankfully im slightly sheltered by the houses to my south and west being slightly higher than be, exposed to a northerly wind though. Just cleared the rubbish in my garden ready and fixed the gate, no doubt ill have to fix it again over the weekend lol. Just hope everyone stays safe. Rather be over cautious than unprepared.
  16. I will have to have a clean up in the garden and make sure the recycling goes in the shed for the night, otherwise the neighbours will have some free rubbish . It seems like there may have been a slight reduction in winds for us but it may change back by tonight, hopefully not though as still looking at possible 80mph.
  17. That's not good for us here in South Wales, bringing even more widely potential 80-90mph gusts for us, I hope it modifies a bit come tomorrow.
  18. Well Met forecast currently says 72mph gusts in Barry, XC Weather 77mph and Net Weather 82mph so I'd say with an increasing amount of confidence the area will get between 70-80mph for a few hours Friday morning. Hopefully there won't be any 'upgrades' so to speak tomorrow as I'd like to keep the roof on the house and my newly planted trees from last summer in the ground. I do love a good wind storm but when you to the 70-80+mph range, it does get a little unnerving.
  19. Yes very gusty here in Barry, a lot of small branches about already and bits blowing around. Wasn't expecting this for today from Dudley.
  20. I expect western and Southern counties of Wales will go red sometime tomorrow, unless there is a downgrade in wind strength
  21. Well it was pretty windy in the early hours this morning with 30-40mph gusts and to think Friday could be 70-80+ here in Barry like most Southern counties is a bit worrying. Despite being a costal town we don't often see more than 60mph gusts here away from the immediate coast. It is nice to have some exciting weather just hope it doesn't prove to be too destructive. Interesting to see the BBC weather just said at the moment the snow will be over north England, north Wales and southern Scotland but wind gusts of 60-70mph, which is less than any of the models are prediction. They airing on the side of caution till tomorrow when they have a better idea of things?
  22. I may have to take a drive somewhere to get my winter snow fix Saturday lol can't see costal areas getting any in the near future. Edit - as I just looked in the model threads it seems the low could go further south (could all change by tomorrow) but does bring the increasing risk for snow even on South costal areas, could be a surprise or two if the south corrections continue?
  23. It's looking like we could very well get some wild weather in Wales Friday, could be some heavy snow from sort of the valleys north and especially with elevation. Will be an interesting few days of model watching ahead!
  24. After a few very foggy mornings and misty days in Barry it's finally a clearer morning. Was chilly yesterday under the fog, only got to 5C and had our lowest minimum last night at -0.4C. Sad to say that our lowest temp as it use to get below that on a fairly regular occasion in winters past. Nice to have a proper frosty, seasonal morning though!
  25. I'd have thought that would be fine as it's below freezing? Turned back to rain here now, front looks to be almost through though so will be too light with what remains for any low lying snow now.
