  1. Yes i did hear the other islands had it worse that Gran Canaria, wasn't expecting it as didn't think Hermine was going to get that close to us. We were suppose to fly home Monday but the flight was cancelled, apparently a lot across the canaries got cancelled over the weekend so you were lucky!
  2. My last day in Gran Canaria today, we had an aweful lot of rain yesterday, constant and heavy with some flooding, a short lived thunderstorm last night and very windy now today.
  3. Hermine is producing a lot of rain here in the Canaries despite not being over us, red warnings out for 100-150mm of rain today.
  4. Is there a tropical depression close to the Canaries? I've seen a few forecasts now saying where I am on holiday in Grand Canaria is suppose to get some torrential rain and storms over the weekend associated with a tropical wave/depression?
  5. Well im off to Grand Canaria for 2 weeks today for a friends wedding, whilst im not a heat person it should be lovely out there with highs of 27-29C. Hopefully when I get back on 27th things will be looking very nicely autumnal for us as I do love the autumn weather and decent into winter!
  6. I've just missed it by about 10-12 miles as in work. My other half said there was a lot of thunder and lightning in Barry. Im gutted, still yet to see a good storm
  7. Im gutted, back home they had a load of Thursday and Lightning in Barry, im about 12 miles away in work and just on the edge of the storm and missed it. They only ever hit home when im not there
  8. Moderate rain with big drops, very dark skies that look like they want to go bang, but sadly its not
  9. Shame the storm over the SW is dying out before getting to South Wales, knowing my luck we will get a storm here when I'm working 12 miles away and I'll miss it
  10. Ita been nice to have some rain for a few hours today, though doubt it even really touched the soil with it being so baked
  11. I cannot say how happy I am for it to be cool outside, cloudy and picking with rain. Feeling comfortable again now and should stay like it all week. Hopefully any further heatwaves will have less intensity to them and 'only' be in the hugh 20s making them more manageable!
  12. Im hoping for something today or tomorrow but feeling it might be unlikely here - showing rain on the radar here but nothing is falling.
  13. Still 32.2C and the house is 29c but for some reason much more humid inside, which feels horrendous. My poor cats aren't coping well bless them. I'll be off to work soon for 7pm until 10am tomorrow in my care service, not looking forward to a night there. Roll on tomorrow and the 23c it's suppose to be here!
  14. Well just recorded 32.7C making today the hottest day of the year and definately our hottest day of the last few years. Humidity is at 29% so still a very dry heat with very little in the way of any breeze. More high cloud around today though.
  15. Anyone else notice the humidity rising? Its gone up to 44% here and starting to feel a bit sticky and uncomfortable in a different way. Still 28c inside despite windows open due to there being no breeze to mix the air out of the house.
  16. Still 31.4C here at 7:30pm, which is absolutely ridiculous for South Wales. Driving about in the heat and the landscape so brown and dusty, it has felt like being somewhere in the Mediterranean the last few days. I think come winter I will be investing in getting a A/C unit, can't be dealing with these heatwaves multiple times a year.
  17. It's 32.4C which makes it the hottest day of the year here. Very warm in the house at 29c. Only one more day tomorrow to get through!
  18. It was still 22c at 4am this morning, there is a nice breeze out there though so hopefully it stays all day to oeg temps back 1-2 degrees today
  19. Been awake since 4am due to the heat upstairs, despite fans on and windows open. I decided to come down and open the back doors and all the windows in the house fully. It was still a balmy 22C outside at 4am. Temp dropped to 20.7C before rising again, managed to get the temp downstairs to a more comfy 24C thismorning before it started to rise as the sun came up, so have shut all doors, windows and curtains to trap the cooler air in for as long as possible. Fingers crossed this will help to mitigate the house getting as hot as it did yesterday, though unlikely lol.
  20. Its currently 32.1C and 29C inside the house downstairs, probably 30/31 upstairs as the house is open plan. This is far to uncomfortable for me. I can't wait for Monday and next week in general for it to feel more comfortable.
  21. It reached just over 33C at St Athen, the official station about 15mins drive from me yesterday, was about 32C in Barry and didn't go below 20C last night. Could be around 34C today, though im working in Cowbridge so probably a degree or 2 cooler here around 32C today. Hope we get some thunderstorms start of the week! Not seen a proper storm in a good few years now.
  22. Been hot today, reached 30C late afternoon, still 24C out and the house is a toasty 27C despite windows closed and curtains most the day. All now open to let the cooler (but still warm) air in. Roll on middle of next week so this heat next 4-5 days can be gone!
  23. I don't know, its just something I heard someone reminisce about from a time long past.
