  1. Moderate to heavy snow now falling and sticking to all surfaces!!
  2. Its been snowing lightly here for 2 hours but only settling slightly even though its only 0.7oc. On the higher suburbs its sticking though. Here are some pics taken this morning in Sheffield at 220 mts asl before todays unexpected snow.
  3. Very icy outside here and all the paths have around a cm of snow on them from this evenings persistant light snow. The side streets have a dusting but are very shiny with black ice. Not bad for 330ft asl. Pretty bad higher up
  4. Snow has suddenly intensified and easterly winds have picked up. Settling!
  5. It started snowing here in Sheffield around 7am and became heavy for an hour around 9am but since then it has been mainly light and intermittent. At 220 mts asl we had 2cm but on the low ground, not much at all, even though the ground is frozen and top temp today of 0.5oc. Still snowing lightly.
  6. Had the most pathetic snow falling last night for an hour or so. It was that light that it soon melted even at 0c on already frozen ground. Todays top temp was 3oc but the thaw set in much more than yesterday and everywhere is rather wet though the hills around Sheffield are a brilliant white. We have had quite a few wintry showers today and at about 200m they were of snow, some quite beefy.
  7. Light drizzle occasionally turning to snow and has given most parts a very light dusting. Typical, looking at the radar it shows the precipitation pepping up as its passed through us.
  8. After last nights snow, here are some pics from this morning and one from this evening. The snow bearly melted in the sun all day and stuck hard in the shade. Very icy at the moment and crunchy under foot. 230m asl. Reached 3oc today.
  9. Here are some pics from the snake pass earlier between Sheffield and Manchester. This was taken around 2pm before this afternoons 3 hours of snow up there. The road is currently closed where these were taken.
  10. Snow now falling to all levels here. Starting to stick after 19mm of rain. Current temp here in my garden is 0.2. looks like the heavy band of precipitation isnt moving far and the cold air is really digging in. Fox house road impassable according to teletext and Holme moss and woodhead now closed.
  11. Went out looking for snow this afternoon, loads around holme moss and snake pass. Just taken 2 hours to come back home. No messing, very heavy snow falling all the way back. We were down top 10 mph and it was a good 3 - 5 cm deep near fox house between sheffield and hathersage. Sleety snow in Sheffield city center itself but still putting slushy deposits down.
  12. Very heavy sleet falling and gusty winds
  13. Hail type sleet detected when driving this afternoon in Sheffield.
  14. Horizontal rain, 22mm so far today and last 6 mm falling in 30 mins. Very gusty here with highest at 61mph
  15. Horizontal heavy rain. Very gusty winds.
  16. It has been a bit sleety here too this evening. Suprising really to say my elevation. Apparently may get slightly more wintry through the night.
  17. After a warm, bright but cloudy and misty morning, it went very dark at around 1.30 and a line of heavy shiowers developed over us. Very slow moving and localised. It also went very muggy and still and murky. Still like that now.
  18. Been raining since 1.30 and in the past 2 hours it has become very heavy and very dark. Torrential for 20 minutes around 5 pm but now just moderate. 14oc and 15mm so far today.
  19. Maximum of 27.9 on thursday!!!!! Currently 20.5 at half past midnight. God its gonna be one of those nights.
  20. Here, Here. After a very muggy and misty day with thick cloud and occasional early rain, we had around half an hour of thunder and lightning at around 2.30. This was followed by 5 - 10 minutes of unbelievably heavy rain. Brought flash flooding here as the drains couldnt cope and there is mud and gravel /stones on the road and pavements that have been washed off the grass
  21. I thought you did. Due to the horizontal nature of alot of the rain that fell, (wind blown) the chances are that alot of rain gauges didnt record an accurate account of the rain that fell.
  22. FAO The Pit: Shows you how a short distance makes all the difference. My brother is 3 miles away in aston and had no rain at all where as my sister is 4 mniles the other way in meadowhead and has been flooded out, and so has the pub she works at on the roundabout. Both report severe CG lightning. Only occasional lightning now and steady moderate rain.
  23. Just getting the monsoon. Horizontal and torrential!
  24. Massive storm approaching sheffield from the south. Increasing CG lightning 6-10 per min and this seems to have brought some very humid air infront of it.
