  1. Quite used to it over the years. Last year was a bonus in that we got heavy snow in the central city that we don't normally get. Think we really need the precipitation to be very heavy, or for the temps to be very low, for Central Glasgow to get snow. And on that note, it's started snowing.
  2. And it is indeed rain. Incredible the difference in a big city compared to its surroundings.
  3. Getting dark here as those clouds gather. Be surprised if it's anything other than rain.
  4. Had a bit of sleet here earlier but it turned to rain quite quickly. Showers passing over falling as rain ever since.
  5. Hello everyone! I'm back too! Saw in the model thread a poster predicting 'disruptive' snow for Western Scotland tomorrow night. What do we think for this, and is it too marginal to affect Glasgow much?
  6. Still doubtful we'll see any snow in Glasgow. If we do it will be wet and will turn to rain. Nothing about this suggests to me we'll get much.
  7. Apparently 4c in Glasgow. Dark now and there's been rain showers. City council are spreading grit on the pavements in the city centre. Maybe they expect snow, I reckon it's just cold enough to excuse using the expensive new winter weather kit they've got.
  8. Call me a pessimist or whatever, but I think this winter will be a mild one
  9. It's still 19c in Glasgow?! Amazing. According to the STV weather, it's to be cloudy with rain tomorrow. Just glad I sat out in the park today then.
  10. Just as I was about to join in the chorus of cynicism about overhype, the winds have picked up markedly in Glasgow. Probably not as bad as May though, as far as I can tell. And probably not worse than many previous autumn storms.
  11. Someone mentioned new Orleans having a bigger population than Scotland earlier. New Orleans city pop: 323,000 Metro: 1.2 million Glasgow city: 620,000 Metro: 1.2 million. Fair enough this is no hurricane katrina but these winds do appear likely to crash right through quite a densely populated area, notwithstanding the rest of the central belt. Scotland is not just a load of mountains. Glasgow is actually bigger than most cities in England.
  12. Trees are starting to change colour here which I think is a little early. Been quite chilly for most of the second half of summer too, but the introduction of windy conditions this week makes it feel much more like the beginnings of autumn. No doubt we will get a calmer period for while too, but definitely feels like autumn is on it's way. Around this time I start looking forward to cold and dark days and nights where you get to feel hygge by staying in a warm pub all day sheltered from the weather. Me? strange? Never!
  13. Rain is bad here now. White Cart water has risen several feet since lunchtime.
  14. Big thundery shower coming towards me from the North now. Looked at first to be going west to east. Big rumbles of thunder and moderate/heavy rain.
  15. Some very dark clouds passed from east to West above me here in Glasgow's south side. Short bursts of heavy rain followed up by a few thunder claps to the south. Reckon one of those storms has just missed.
  16. That's dreadful. Actually feel as though Scotland is being picked upon from that chart.
  17. Just saw the update to the summer forecast. Netweather no longer reckon June will be a warm month as first anticipated, but say that the 'northern half' of the UK will have average temperatures. That would actually be an improvement on recent weather because Thursday/Friday excluded it's been no warmer than 14/15c in western Scotland for some time. Temperatures seem permanently below average here and, whats more, I've yet to see any forecasts for the Glasgow area, whether they be on here, Weather Channel, weatheronline or elsewhere, which show any change from this pattern over the next two weeks. Again, I reckon the only country in Europe colder than Scotland right now is Iceland.
  18. Yes, where do I start. Summer 2011, think that might have just been and gone for us here. Constant temps of around 11-14c. It's a bad time when you look forward to the 'warmth' of 14c. And this spring/summer it seems to be never ending. Only Reykjavik is cooler than Glasgow!
  19. Lets be honest, does any of this forecast actually apply to Scotland? Our summer was yesterday!
  20. Not in the West of scotland they're not. 13c is the forecasted high on Saturday for Glasgow.
  21. Perhaps my memory is bad, but can anyone recall May any year being as bad as that? I was away for the first 10 days or so, but since then the weather in Glasgow has been abysmal.
  22. Weatheronline's seasonal forecast suggesting that the NW/SE divide will continue through June/July. How depressing.
  23. Yep so I was barking up the wrong tree.... When I was originally considering it I wasn't really including Scandinavia as part of Western Europe, but i you do that then you're really making up the criteria to suit the argument. ie. Glasgow is the coldest city in Western Scotland or something daft. Anyway, it's been bloody freezing here this week (no idea Cardiff was the same btw - now I know ) and long may it continue, only it probably wont because it's already -5 and some local sites have been reporting freezing rain this morning...
  24. I realise I maybe barking up the wrong tree, and that someone could well be along to correct me soon, but I want to throw this out there. For the past week, Glasgow has been perishingly cold. We have now not only had an ice week, but the temperatures I don't think have got above around -5 for several days now, and frequently below -11 at night. Currently at approach 22:00 on Xmas eve, Glasgow Airport is reporting -12, which is quite typical for this cold spell. It is truly incredible. I have friends who have come up from London who don't know what has just hit them. So, has Glasgow recently been the coldest city not only in Britain, but across Western Europe during the past week or two?!
