I’d be fascinated to know how these storms developed in such a linear fashion. Is it something to do with upper wind direction or the lie of the land, or a combination of both? For a while last night there seemed to be a line from East Ayrshire, up through to Blantyre and towards Coatbridge that the storms wouldn’t touch. Either side was getting plastered though. Even after a larger storm did make it through, the path of storms seemed to be up through Central Scotland across Lanarkshire, West Lothian and Fife.

Still seems to be missing the area between EK and Hamilton. Lots of great lightning though.

Yes that was exactly how it went. Was almost like a shock wave. We reckon it was in High Blantyre.

Having said that we’ve just had a lightning strike within about half a mile of here. Pretty loud, shook the building.

No rain and only distant thunder/lightning at work in Hamilton. At home on the south side of Glasgow seems to have had 2 direct hits.

Yes definitely more hazy but also still very warm and feeling like there’s more moisture in the air. It almost smells like a tropical place during the rainy season.

Thats us had our nice week. Now for the rainy week. Was a hot one in Glasgow today so about time for a wee cool down. That might be it for the summer unless we get a wee pleasant spell end of August/start of Sept.

Bit early for noticing changing daylight here, late August it becomes more apparent, but what does start around now is the noticeably lower sun and the longer shadows it casts. I like to think of the period from mid August to mid September as the dog days of summer. I know that in mythology and file lore the term refers to an earlier period in mid summer, but I always feel that it’s a good descriptor for those days where there can still be some warmth, but it’s also apparent that summer is coming to an end. The lower sun that becomes apparent now is the first real sign, schools and colleges here in Scotland start back in mid August which are another indicator that the feel good days of summer are ending. Also noticeable are the quieter parks and open spaces, as if everyone has got a bit too used to warm and gentle weather (always a mistake here! Take what you can get at all times!!!) and have become complacent about making the most of it. Yet these end days of the season hold plenty of joy in themselves, if the weather is nice, as you can get to squeeze the last drops of warmth out of the sun in readiness for the darker days and evenings ahead. It is, to me at least, a unique time of year with its own melancholy yet thankful character.

A downpour here for the last 20/30 minutes, varying in intensity. Quite soothing.

Absolutely bucketed down with rain in the Glasgow area and across the south west Highlands and west coast over the past couple of days. Plenty more to come today with a yellow warning in place. As much as I loved the warmth while it was here last week, I’m actually quite glad to see this rain.

Just checked radar. Looks like it’s just missing us. South West highlands have had some drenching today though (Od guess even for their standards).

Been out and about last night and today. Callander, Lochearnhead, Killin, Aberfeldy and back down to Glasgow. Bucketed with rain periodically, actually found it quite nice although it prevented any nice views of the mountains. Just heard too cracks of thunder in Glasgow and have heard some torrential rain is headed our way?

Ominous is exactly the word I’d use for Glasgow. Very overcast and full, still with some heat although Temperature has dropped markedly too, more than you’d expect just from the sun being obscured.

Beautiful day. 23c at Glasgow Airport I believe. Nice enough to stop me moaning even though I’m in covid jail. Hopefully get out tomorrow.

In Glasgow it’s 17c. 19c is our official melting point.

It actually lasts longer here. Even though the sky is 100% cloud covered there’s still quite a bit of light outside. Probably about 11pm before that’s gone completely.

Sunset is at 22:02 tonight. That’ll be the nights starting to draw in….

Err… 2 and a half. in all seriousness while we’ve not had much we’ve probably had a bit more than that. Sunny days are dotted here and they’re but they’re not frequent. Certainly had very few days where you could be confident it wouldn’t rain, whilst being very warm. As someone said above, it’s garbage. Hope this talk of building summer heat has some substance.

The storms that hit Scotland on 10th August 2020 are the worst I’ve seen here. Could even see atmospheric cloud lightning, and we didn’t even get the worst of it in Glasgow. That was reserved for the East Coast from Edinburgh and the Lothians right upto Aberdeen. The biggest consequence was of course the tragic train derailment near Stonehaven the following morning, however the main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line was washed away over a mile and a half near Falkirk due to the Forth & Clyde Canal embankments being breached.

Netherlands: At least one dead as tornado sweeps through Dutch coastal town NEWS.SKY.COM Dramatic pictures and video on social media show the tornado circling the town of Zierikzee, around 44 miles (77km) southwest of Rotterdam, on Monday. Some footage within the article. Anyone in the area? Very tragic that someone has lost their life due to this event.

Yesterday was decent, today has been pretty wet. Largely the story of June here. Doesn’t appear to be any sign of this pattern changing, indeed these tend to be pretty difficult to shake off.
