this is quite funny - back of my house A470 upper boat tesco, pontypridd - can see in lamp posts extremely heavy snow, front of my house - nothing! guess its just the way the wind is blowing! have to just look out of the back window!!
yes very odd but it could be the wind direction perhaps. its slowly starting to change - within last hour we had light sleet, then snow, then back to heavy sleet rain, now as we speak its starting to turn to snow from the nearest lamp post I can see on the A470!
hammy i would say really only within the last hour members have been reporting snow, although some parts within few miles of each other its a fight between snow and heavy rain. members reporting snow are west wales, south wales valleys and heads of valleys. although for some like myself - bottom valleys its yet to change
have faith CLH time will tell. look at us we are A470, Upper Boat Tesco, Pontypridd and have rain yet Andy look wat hes got (admittedly he is higher elevation) I bets hes already out on his blinking sledge coming down the graig hill! Lucky bugger
wwelshgritter welcome, job well done hats off to you. silly question it may seem but i was watching news earlier and a gritter mentioned that grit on the road does not just melt snow and ice. it actually relies on other vehicles to activate it :~ puzzled by this I can understand relying on cars to disperse it etc but activation?
snowing here now andy as well and wind has really picked up. just opened the vents on the log fire and the wind whipping from the chimney sounds like Mo Mowlam rolling over in bed keep us posted andy as your higher up than us, but I can see certainly keep people posted about A470 as its 50 yards away from my back window. Bring on the SNOW, snow snow!!!!!!!
of course there is always positivity in the Wales forum - we are all a good crowd and get high on vodka and red bull, we sniff it through our eye sockets! I do not think its overly being positiive. With respect idi - If you have been following this forum for the last week ,a few members here predicted a major event for this coming weekend. The fact the METO have backed this up is positive indeed. I have been a member here for a few years and have enjoyed the buzz of all the members when it comes to snow events! Sit back relax and get ready for the end of the world as we know it. SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!!!
perfecto!!!
just been having a look at aviation weather warnings - none to report as yet - but latest obs are: -
Conditions at: EGFF (CARDIFF-WALES AR, GB) observed 0050 UTC 18 January 2013 Temperature: 4.0°C (39°F) Dewpoint: 0.0°C (32°F) [RH = 75%] Pressure (altimeter): 29.70 inches Hg (1006.0 mb)
i musy say considering whats about to happen its might quiet in here tonight! Perhaps the fact its nearly 1am is a fair point LOL
This is going to be the king of kings I think! SNOW bring it on. Looking out back window - even though its 1am Upper Boat Tesco car park is full. All the preppers getting ready I dare to say!
NOPE NOPE NOPE and NOPE!! I want to lamp post watch but unfortunately after our 18 hours Power Cut last week the street lights have all blown! So will have to resort to using a torch to see whats falling out the sky
