51 out of 52 Sundays I would love morning storms being on the way. This is the 1 I don't want them and here they come!!
-
Blimey that died quickly, only 1 flash in the last 5 minutes! The
-
Virtually non stop strobe lightning from the anvil which is now almost overhead and hearing constant thunder from within the storm.

2 days ago we barely nudged 13c as a max, right now it's 22.30 and above 21c and feels like the Mediterranean.
-
A brief downpour with huge drops and a few close flashes/rumbles over Warminster but it seems to be intensifying as it heads away - now almost continuous thunder away to the N/NW, very messy sky too with low cloud so hard to make out the elevated storm cloud. I would expect this to be quite a storm system as it heads towards Bath/Bristol and further West.
Seems the plume got going about 25 miles inland in this part of the region as opposed to on the coast which is what I thought would happen when I posted this morning.

Extremely rapid development Salisbury-Amesbury-Andover, lots of strikes on ligtningmaps but only tiny echoes on the radar that's 7 minutes old! Hearing thunder from the SW and SE of Warminster now I am home.

I'm in Westbury at the moment, some perfect towers growing over Salisbury Plain (the only clouds visible anywhere) so I would expect some cells to pop up over Wiltshire soon.

It is important to note that this evening's set up will probably see rapid elevated storm formation near/just off the South Coast then quickly intensifying over land.
So if the radar is looking inactive do not be despondent, the plume will interact rapidly when it arrives.
Similar to the Saturday evening last month and Friday night/Saturday morning this weekend last year as well as several other dates in recent years that slip my mind.

Did anyone see this much rain coming today? Over 15mm so far and plenty more to come. This is as bad a fail by models and forecasts as the early hours then morning of Wednesday 11th April.

Tomorrow's forecast looks dreadful. My 'sunshine every day' record looks like coming to an end.
Therefore you should be hopeful of at least some sunny spells because, as you often refer to, the forecasting recently has been poor.
With 15 ish hours of possible sun I reckon we'll all see some burn through at some stage.

Lively downpour and 9c drop in temperature in the last hour. Garden needed the water as did the water butts. Absolutely love the petricor smell.

Do you think Thursdays front/trough could be thundery Knocker?
Tv forecasts and various phone apps (including Met Office) showing an occlusion and light rain.

This is just as exciting as watching the snow dig into my area on the radar back in March.
In many ways the set up is similar to the convective snow shower days we had in late February and mid March, except it's 20c+ warmer lol.

Sat in the garden, boy playing madly as only toddlers do, admiring TCu in all directions. Not sure when we last had a convective day!?

5 days out of 6 with almost maximum sunshine, although official recordings may have been Cirrus affected.

You can bet your bottom dollar that an unsettled spell will turn up from 29th May to June 1st when I have a brief work period during half term! If it does turn bad then that will follow 7 wet/damp mornings out of 9 in the Easter break!
The vast majority of the 6 school weeks have and will be fine (next week won't be anything more than scattered showers/storms) although of course that included a wet Wednesday which obviously landed on my fortnightly workday!
I am only too aware that we probably do need some rain and will do even more with another dry warm week!

Indeed. In fact with lightbulb sun and out of the wind, it's almost humid feeling. Had a some very light rain for a time earlier.
Hey that's my saying ! (c)

Are these frequent cool/cold mornings an ongoing effect of the colder winter? Perhaps due to sea temperatures being lower?

There is a perfect 360 degree halo around the sun in thin Cirrus, shame I can't get a decent picture!
It's a very British summer sky with pale blue, thickening Cirrus and scattered small Cumulus.
18.4c at present .

That moment when you get the parasols out to create a shaded area on the lawn and the cloud / wind turn up 5 minutes later!

Second nearby storm of the morning, torrential rain and booming thunder but only a few flashes seen, I guess elevated storms above Stratocumulus. They have, again, developed very quickly!
