Lightning not far from overhead, about 4 seconds between flash and thunder.

Very heavy thundery rain now here and with no lighting or thunder
It's an absolutely horrendous monsoon isn't it Tom. Thunder heard as I type. Not sure which direction! It developed VERY quickly!
-
Two pointless showers this afternoon, the first where the boy and I counted 9 raindrops in 5 minutes then a sharper one around 18.00 . It's currently extremely black to the S/SW, the radar indicates downpours a few miles way and probably a shock to the system for The Deverills/Mere etc.

Granted there is some sporadic unsettled weather in the next few days but on the whole it's still looking as it has for weeks now.
However as sure as eggs are eggs the more widespread unsettled charts coincide perfectly with the start of the school holidays!
The last widespread unsettled conditions were in the end of May half term break!!!
-
Blimey there is rain around the Bristol Channel! It's heading slowly SE while the wind here is from the East so that's interesting already and suggestive of convergence.
A very hazy/smoky morning here thanks to fresh fires on Salisbury Plain, some sun and Altocumulus.

This truly is an incredible spell of summer weather!
The 2 'cooler' days have still got above 26c and it looks set to be similar tomorrow then hotter Friday into the weekend!

The fire is on MOD land and was caused during military exercises! There are several of them ongoing!
The MOD are leaving them to burn themselves out as there is no threat to people or property, a stance which has angered villagers in a number of places as well as bringing negative response from the fire service who are not allowed to intervene unless asked to do so by the MOD!

Nudged above 32c here too and still above 31c now! Still not humid though so although very hot it isn't unpleasant.
That's now 13 out of 14 days above 28c!
-
We still haven't had much humidity though. The 2 most humid days were last Sunday then Wednesday which were both cloudier and (ever so slightly) unsettled. Both subsequent nights were the warmest so far too, otherwise it's been down to 13c-15c by 6am.

An extremely strange and almost erroneous long gust of wind a little earlier.
Amongst a day of rare gentle breezes it suddenly gusted up to gale force for over half a minute before returning to calmness since!
My guess is some kind of heat related instability. Just nudged up to 30c.
-
10 days out of 11 at 28c and above, 3 of those (including today) nudged above 30c and the odd day out was yesterday.
It looks likely to become 14 days out of 15 too!!!

21.5C and mostly cloudy here after a partly sunny start. There's also a haze almost mist filling the valley a bit which is strange.
That could conceivably be smokiness from fires on Salisbury Plain with the wind more S/SE today.

In summers like 2007 and 2012 today would have been the best it got, not the worst.

The military have managed to cause fires on Salisbury Plain! I can periodically see smoke drifting across to my ENE.
-
8 consecutive days above 28c with today the second to go to 30c. Tomorrow virtually a dead very to make it 9. I must look back to see when this last happened.

Imagine the windchill in winter or early Spring. Oh yea, it happened, twice, lol.
Another Easterly! And this one is hot!

Mapantz, I think you have a good chance of beating your record starting Tuesday (catering for shower chances tomorrow). Big raindrops as I type.
The next proper unsettled spell is certain to wait until 27th July when the school holidays and my next work time begin!

It is dry here over in warminster not rain yet
Tom I think we're going to have the hottest day so far seeing as it's unbroken sunshine and above 21c already, it's taken until about 11am to get to this temperature on previous days.
High/medium level cloud visible to the W/SW but not coming this way.
-
Wifi issues* mean I can't screenshot app images to share so am on my laptop instead, suffice to say the IPhone app shows 60% chance of thunderstorms from midday tomorrow while the Met Office show no more than 10% chance of precipitation! Which will be closer to the mark, I mentioned a few weeks ago how well the IPhone app was doing at short range for light rain/drizzle and it did far better in the last week of May than the Met one!
*How is it possible to have full wifi signal, be sat only a few metres from the BT Hub yet get stuck in a non page loading wifi loop!?
-
5 days above 28c here with the only cloud yesterday in 3 different forms ; early Stratocumulus, mid afternoon small Cumulus then late evening AltCas.
-
-
Those commenting on the temperature, all week here it has stayed above 27c until after 20.00 then dropped quickly.
-
2018 is the year of the Easterly, a gusty one today and isobars look tighter into the weekend.

Well here's a change, an hour ago we looked set for another full on sunny day and now it's gone gloomy and feels cool because the 12.2c minimum isn't rising.

Lightning and thunder over Warminster now and a really horrendous monsoon that developed very quickly. Hope you're happy Tom!
