  1. Well here we are again, another school holiday starts tomorrow and Mother Nature is changing the weather for the worse, however I will be happy with working out in cold/dry from Friday (although next week has stereotypical wet likelihood!) .

Even though much of the summer holidays saw me working out in dry conditions the general theme still changed from definite heatwave dryness to more unsettled right as the schools broke up!

Much of this may be rendered unimportant though seeing as I am currently iceing my right foot which I can barely stand on today, no idea how it happened but thankfully I'm sat in the sun * and my boy is happily investigating every square inch of the garden!

    * To return to my opening comments re school holiday weather this is the 7th perfect day in a row!

Just a bit annoyed about that this northerly happens when we go away to Ibiza, because we will miss the first cold of the year!

Why? Enjoy your holiday in warm sun while we, according to some, 'enjoy' 7c and cold rain / showers with the odd frost if the sky clears at night / early morning.

It would be much more interesting a month down the line.

    Day 2 Convective Outlook

    VALID 06:00 UTC Wed 10 Oct 2018 - 05:59 UTC Thu 11 Oct 2018

    ISSUED 20:14 UTC Tue 09 Oct 2018

    ISSUED BY: Dan

Upper low over northern Iberia (the remnants of the rainfall event over southern Britain last Saturday) will weaken and be absorbed into the forward side of the main upper trough approaching from the Atlantic. An increasingly moist airmass will advect from France across southern Britain during Wednesday evening and night, destabilising as subtle upper forcing engages with the moisture plume.

Sporadic bursts of showery rain will likely develop over the English Channel and portions of England and Wales during Wednesday evening and overnight into Thursday morning. A few hundred J/kg CAPE accompanied with subtle forcing may allow some sporadic lightning to occur, moreso on the rear (western) side of any showery rain, but unlikely to be too widespread.

Naturally there is some uncertainty as to where any lightning may occur - but two main areas of interest might be E Devon / Dorset / Somerset / Wiltshire into SE Wales during the night, then another area towards SE England / Home Counties by Thursday morning at the end of the forecast period. However, neither look convincing enough to warrant an upgrade at this stage.

Interesting possibilities tomorrow night! I will be on the lookout for AltCas during the day.

Ian Fergusson mentioned the low chance of thundery activity on Points West.

It's quite uncanny how frequently the worst conditions keep occurring at weekends. That would be the 3rd poor Saturday out of 4 (given how bad this Saturday looks and with a fine week in between) , in the amazing summer there were 3 poor Sundays with great days sandwiching them and even on a dry weekend (last weekend) amidst a very pleasant early Autumn spell the coolest, dullest day was Sunday.
