  1. Not sure what it’s like back at home, but some nice, sunny weather about in the South-West of the region currently. Was cloudier earlier, though.
  2. Stunning pics! Demonstrates the transition from month to month rather well. Especially love the July one - impressive cloud structure to that storm. ? Get the feeling for some if everything had happened a month later, it could have been one of the best Summers some have witnessed! When I think about it, May did feel Summery and looked to be a better month for thundery weather than the main Summer months put together (certainly for here, anyway). @MP-R Will remember to add a ‘very good’ option next time. The jump from ‘good’ to ‘terrific’ is probably a bit much to be honest.
  3. A little bit dissapointing, that. Still a few days away, so enough time for some possible changes to be made.
  4. Definitely does feel warmer tonight. 19.6*C at the moment, which I wasn’t expecting!
  5. Greetings! How do you feel Summer went for you? With August gone and September breaking through, it’s time to say farewell to Summer 2018 .... (although Summery weather in September is still possible). Still felt worth starting this up since the main part of Summer is no more. What constitutes as a great Summer for one person could be different from someone else. For example, one person may prefer a Summer to be wet most of the time, while another may see a Summer with lots of sunshine and the odd few thunderstorms as being a Summer of their dreams! Either way, it’s subjective. And the same could apply for whether someone likes a Summer hot, or cool! Generally, though, think for most a Summer is good if it’s warm and has lots of sunny and useable weather! For me, this is how Summer went: June - Quite a settled month overall. My memory of the month isn’t brilliant, but do know it wasn’t that wet and the second half of the month particularly, was very dry with hardly a drop of rain. Some of the days at the end seemed to have a good amount of sunny spells, but the grass was starting to go dry and brittle. It was very warm in some instances, but think most of that was towards the end of the month. There was also the odd bit of thundery weather around, with one night (I think) with some rumbles and flashes! Rating out of 10: July - Best month of the Summer! Rain was almost non-existent with the odd bit of drizzle and just the odd spell or two of heavier rain and showers towards the end of the month. High Pressure constantly in control with a Northerly tracking Jetstream. The heat did feel relentless at times, though, with temperatures getting around the 30*C mark on a number of occasions. Some wall to wall sunshine on a few days too! Very nice! Admittedly, the plants and grass did suffer. Grass going very brown and yellow everywhere. Don’t think I’ve known it to be that dry before. Thunderstorms were lacking and did let the month down slightly. As a July, been one of the best ones I’ve experienced - probably beating July 2006. Rating out of 10: August - the party pooper of Summer 2018. A mixed month with the Atlantic mostly in control, although it was a slight improvement on last year here. And even last year was a little improvement on the year before (I think from what I remember). There were some reasonable dry and bright periods and it was by no means a terrible month (I appreciate for North-Western areas, it was probably more of a stinker!). Ground was still dry in places. Quite far from being a washout here, but despite some bright and dry spells, it seemed to also be a fairly cloudy month. And quite a fair bit cooler than July with some windy days. In some ways, the cooler weather was a welcome relief from all the heat in July, though would have loved for the month to have been a touch warmer. The temperatures were still just about comfortable enough to get away with not having to wear a jumper too often. The last week of August was probably the most disturbed with some rain and showers on numerous days. The odd thundery shower here and there too! However the last two days made up for it a bit with some spells of warmish sunshine. And it at least meant Summer finished with a reasonable bang! ? Rating out of 10: Overall a lovely Summer; mostly very warm, dry, and with some good sunny spells. Just let down a bit by the fairly average August, although it did offer some reasonable variety. Thundery weather could have been better and July would have got top marks had there been a proper thunderstorm here that month. A Summer close, if not, on par with 2006. ? (PS: if the text comes out big, it’s probably because of copying and pasting this from the Notes app)
  6. Hate it when I get so paranoid when I post in a thread and it suddenly goes quiet and then worrying I’ve done something wrong. I know it’s silly it’s not like I’m the only one it happens to! (Sorry I know I’m a mod and shouldn’t be posting all this off topic rubbish. Really need to learn not to post on Netweather when feeling lonely or in a bad mood lol)
  7. I wonder why it’s so quiet on here and the Midlands thread lol. Must have scared everyone away
  8. Guess I wasn’t the only one who noticed some fairly significant convection about. Amazing really, don’t think it was forecasted.
  9. Looking at the Midlands Regional Weather Discussion thread, looks like people such as @cyclonic happiness @I remember Atlantic 252 @Snowy L etc have talked about there being convective activity with a few odd isolated showers in Central areas. So I guess it would explain why there’s been some thundery-looking clouds about. Would imagine @Arnie Pie from near the city centre of Birmingham probably saw quite a lot of convection later this afternoon too and into the evening.
  10. Some pretty impressive convection around here, especially looking East towards Coventry. Wasn’t expecting this really.
  11. As @Frosty.says, back to the models please guys. I understand people’s concern about lack of rainfall, but there is the moans and banter thread, or the general Summer chat threads, for that. Cheers.
  12. Reached bang on 31*C at 2:34pm this afternoon.
  13. Been a few odd little cumulus clouds dotted about this afternoon as Sweatyman has noted, especially to the South (still a few about now), although aside from that it’s been pretty much cloud-free with constant sunshine. ?
  14. Fair bit cooler here, albeit still very warm with the temperature around 27*C. Just a few odd tiny clouds poking about in the sky today. Don’t feel it’s selfish really for those to want to continue to see dry and Summery conditions like this. We don’t have any control of the weather and whatever we want to see won’t make any difference as to what will happen. Wouldn’t mind seeing some rain whenever the breakdown occurs, as longs as it’s of the thundery and stormy variety!
  15. Glad it disappeared quickly. Seems pretty cool and fresh this morning, but temperature approaching 16*C.
  16. Not sure if there was any of the grey stuff here earlier on, but the Solihull Cloud Shield is currently operating at 100% power.
  17. Yeah, probably most likely a glitch. Noticed that the temperature was hovering around the 22*C mark for a while, but it did feel hotter than that. Particularly the further into the afternoon the day got. Must have slept through all the cloud this morning. Does show how powerful the sun is at this time of year when it can burn through all that cloud with a flick of a switch! The cloud will probably sneak back in tomorrow morning giving more work for the sun to do!
  18. 22.6*C here with hardly a cloud in the sky.
  19. Although still very warm, just 22*C(ish) in this part at the moment. Interesting that some places further West are getting the hotter temperatures. Maybe to do with the positioning of the high and the topography of some areas in the West. ? (Them again, if their had been some cloud around here this morning, and especially areas even further East, guess that could have been the culprit too).
  20. Would be nice if a breakdown is of a thundery one with some pretty convective skies. Something that does look possible with some of the models showing developing Low Pressure to the South-West of the U.K. More exciting (personally) than a slow, gradual breakdown to Atlantic weather and general spells of rain.
  21. Yeah can be frustrating I guess we just got to have faith and believe those of us with low self-esteem or such, will get through things. In a way, think a lot of people get periods of lower self-esteem at times, but some being good at hiding it. Good thing the weather is so good at the moment (maybe a tad too hot tho)
  22. Happy Birthday Apparently got up to 29.3*C, which amusingly, is ever, ever, so slightly cooler than yesterday. Might be a possibility of some storms towards the beginning of next week with Low Pressure to our South or South West (if that verifies of course)
  23. Can’t believe how close we got to 30*C yesterday. The MonkspathWeather site showing us being just 0.4*C away from that 30 mark! Didn’t think temperatures would get any higher than 27/28*C, but I suspect that magic 30*C will likely be smashed today. Sunny with heaps of blue sky at the moment and a temperature of 21*C already.
  24. Sorry about my creepy post towards @matt111 yesterday (even though the comment about his profile pic was meant to be a compliment). Wasn’t trying to hit on him or anything (really don’t like to embarrass people), just I shouldn’t have been on Netweather yesterday when my self-esteem was low. Anyway, like a few others, got around 30*C(ish) here yesterday, and this morning the temperature is already nearing 21*C. Despite being from the Midlands, looks like 30*C could be reached again for some of you guys in here. Perhaps the possibility of temperatures being even hotter than yesterday!
