87, in what way? IRC Snowstorms of 1987 came off East winds with a front moving up from the SE. The battle ground was not til later in the week, but don't remeber what happened, probably ended the freeze?? -

Best bet is to expect absolutely nothing on Fri-Sat. Preapre your mild for rain as mild wades in. Then your state of mind will be fine. However if we get a snow fest, with some sig' falls then that's a bonus that's gonna make you real happy!! I feel Prozac need to ship some supplies in very quickly, just in case you don't heed the advice!! -

Thames Streamers are great but as rare anything. Been spoilt in last 4 years with two! I reckon it sometimes been 10 years+ between similar falls & set ups. -

Just got up. Outside = Mess Patches of slush and that's about it. Give me 100 or 200 ft ASL and I'd have about an inch. However right down in the valley almost touching the river it's just a tad too warm. Heck of a cold N breeze out there though. Will be a nightmare if the temps drops a few deg, as there will be sheet ice everywhere. -

I do wish when people state "rain here" or "it's going to snow here later" they could just spare 10 extra seconds and put thier location. Unfortunately some of us are not behind a nice warm computer and viewing on the mobile iOS or Android becomes really frustrating and has me shouting WHERE at the screen, and it's getting me funny looks! Just raining here on the High Speed near Gravesend- 861 replies

10 or 20 good posts out of 100/200 I do wish people would stop asking if it's going to snow in thier backgarden and at what time. Also the pages of "fingers crossed" is getting a little tedious wading through. The long and short of it is, is going to be a looking out of the window event tomorrow as it's on a knife edge as to who gets snow, rain or a fizzling out nothing. The next few days after that look pretty good for convective showers that will almost certainly be of snow. But these will be mainly for the East, but these can blow fairly far inland if the breeze is strong enough. Which forecast to look at??? Some of you need to watch Countryfile at about 19:45-19:55 on BBC1 tonight, that's about the best you're going to get. The best bet is to enjoy the ride, read some of the more knowledgeable posts and try to refrain from asking for personal to the square acre weather forecasts. Oh and if it doesn't snow for you, then feel free to blame the Mod's Just sayin'

Just watched Matt on BBC News and he seemed to suggest that the snow line would be the Thames. North will be snow overnight and in morning, South rain with snow at elevations. The line will so fine and fluid expect the unexpected and for some prepare for disappointment. The good news, cold rest of week with snow showers for the East.

6am taxi to work. Checking NW, don't think I've seen such a "on/off" snow event before. We get what we get and that's about the size of it. Frustrating as hell but what can we do! Apart from keep rubbing that lucky (not for the rabbit) rabbits' foot!

It's was what I read a few years ago, it said of course there were other factors to consider. Just shows what you learn first tends to stick in your head wether it's complete balony or not ..... d'oh I repect your knowledge so will go with what you say. Damn misleading c88p you read online -

If precip is heavy enough with a few other factors (Dp's etc etc) then it can. But -6 is marginal, in my humble learning. -7 Very good, -5 Hmmm possible but most likely not, above that forget it. -

Yes exactly, you state the words "educated guess". Some are clearly not posting anything like "educated" and are clearly getting peoples hope up with comments similar to ...... gonna be waist deep, absolutely nailed, blah blah. Yes it's fun and part of the community, but a few smilies would help show it's meant to be taken lightly as some are taking it literally then getting all confused (as if it's not confusing enough already) -

I think that this site should have some Kudos System based on forecasting ability, meteorology qualifications/experinence and a league table of who calls it right and who hasn't a clue with high mis-predictions. Some people here are clearly very knowledgable, but some haven't got a foggiest clue about what they are preaching and I fear that some people hang on the wrong peoples predictions (guess) If industry experts are unsure about what is going to happen, it's for a reason.....it's unsure what's going to happen. -

Are you guys referring to the one where you put in your locations and it gives you symbols and a kind of individual forecast?? If so they used to be computer generated and as about reliable as a handbrake on a battleship. The 5 Day regional text forecasts much more accurate/reliable/sort of going to happen. -

Don't understand how some can say we're going to get dumped on like it was fact, as seriously it's just a guess. Also some suggesting a mild outcome by Tuesday is also just a guess. I'm fairly old, I have seen so many snow forecasts go wrong, got myself so excited (yep I'm a cold and snow freak!!) and woken up very disappointed. Likewise, a damp squib of a forecast has had the room very bright the next morning, as a pull of the curtains revealed a white wonderland. This country is so hard to predict (with any accuracy) where and when snow is going to fall (many online guides about the very subject) it's just a matter of WAIT & SEE. So could some people stop over stating it's nailed or we're going to be knee deep as it's about as accurate as forecasting next Springs Grand National winner. And don't forget if you take a step back, after argueing about snow, then speak to a non weather geek neighbour and explain you "needed to get out and get some fresh air as you've been rowing with people", then the neighbour says "Oh no....what about" and you say "snow" then don't be surprised at the expression on thier face!! It's not begun, nor has the fat lady sang.
