  1. Yes, after a promising daybreak, it's gone downhill to a gloomfest here.
  2. Yes, I think the front that will ruin some of North England's chances will help some of us. Kent looks worst place, but you never know.
  3. North Sea 5h^t here in Lowestoft. Detestable weather. I often wish the North Sea wasn't there, or maybe it was just a 10 mile wide channel.
  4. Let's face it, anything now is only very likely to be a statistical curiosity rather than a memorable snowfall in its own right. Even the March snows of two years ago (in our area) wouldn't have warranted too much discussion if they'd occurred in January.Time to look towards big convective showers, light evenings and warm sunshine methinks.
  5. That chart would not be a big deal for the East of England. Nowhere near the level of early December 2013. Avonmouth also has a huge tidal range, so 10cms there equates to far less of a tide difference for most other areas.
  6. There will indeed be very high spring tides on 21/22 of this month and very slightly bigger ones around 22/23 March. As has been pointed out these are mostly because of the time of year - near the equinox -although we are at a peak of an 18.something year tidal cycle which increases the heights of big spring tides. The highest natural tides "for decades" will be around 29/30 September this year, if anyone remembers by then. There's nothing in the charts that I'm seeing this morning that are overly concerning for next weekend. Might be worth a trip to the seaside though.
  7. Yes, I think the weather warnings have been about ice more than snow for us. Nearly fell over twice yesterday due to it.
  8. So you're saying that he has a very silly approach by not watching the radar tonight?
  9. Low topped cumulonimbus moving SW, North of Lowestoft. Quite pretty in the evening Sun, with trailing virga. Probably rain under it though.
  10. Will any snow cover remain by late afternoon, of the stuff that fell in our area last night? (>150m altitude excepted)
  11. We had some sort of precipitation here in Lowestoft last night, not that I wasted any time looking out for it - I was 90% sure of not waking up to any sort of covering. No evidence of snowfall, but car was frozen and a sod to open!
  12. Yes, I'm currently in Oulton Broad, near Lowestoft and can confirm snow flurries at about 10 this morning - 2 miles from the coast (although a much longer land track for the current wind direction...) Nothing to get remotely excited about though, imho. Going for a curry?
  13. I'm happy for a dry spell now. It makes Spring walks (in unfamiliar locations) less problematic. I particularly remember one on a byway near Thaxted last spring, which had become a 600m long shallow river. Not a lot of fun, even though I have very decent footwear.
  14. Not sure the 70's - apart from, very notably, 78/79 - were that great tbh. Certainly not memorable in my neck of the woods. Caveats being I can't properly remember early 70's and I know there was a historic snowstorm in the SW earlier in 1978. Apart from 78/79, the 1980's were a lot better here for snow.
  15. Dusting of snow in Lowestoft has whitened the landscape. Could be dodgy driving later.
  16. Polar lows die out quickly when hitting land. If it's a proper polar low, it'd be a busted flush by the time it tracked here, over land from NW Scotland.
  17. Don't polar lows also decay rapidly on reaching land too? Much like hurricanes? Not at all convinced this is the real mccoy.
  18. Aren't these one and the same? They look like it to me.
