  1. I will be thinking, by tomorrow evening though, whether I should take work home, as a contingency.
  2. I'd hate those charts to verify Surrey. They'd likely mean lots of cold rain for us down south imho. Anyway, like I said, I won't worry too much until Saturday morning now.
  3. It's a shame it translates. Google didn't show it. Could have been a new English language word right here!
  4. He asked Snowking why he was 'stribbeling' I don't think that translates at all! Anyway, a bit too much off topic stuff from me. I don't think I'm going to take too much notice of the models for our area until late tomorrow, or Saturday (before getting too excited anyway) I think John has it right, when he says he won't look at anything until tonight now.
  5. Hmmm - I don't like the sound of dark cloud and 4C on Saturday.
  6. There was a funny exchange between him and Snowking - started by Snowking typoing the word 'ass' instead of 'see' in a response to Ryan's post. Then someone mentioned Allo Allo, the tv show. It made me chuckle. My hunch is he's British, but it's only a hunch, so I wouldn't like to place a bet. He spells English words incorrectly, but not as the way the Dutch would spell - for instance 'Atlantik'
  7. God knows - I did wonder myself too... He's certainly a ramper!
  8. I can't access from this link, but I guess it's Gibby's post? In which case I totally agree. I like the fact he saves me a good hour or so each morning, as my thoughts and analyses end up being like his, so I now don't bother doing much chart analysis myself. The same goes for yourself and JP here though, who do a lot of legwork (as well as others at times) Cheers!
  9. Morning all. Sunny and fresh here. The temperature is 1.5C. The local road hasn't been gritted either (or was gritted very early) even though it's on the council schedule. Worryingly icy.
  10. Yes AS, I'll certainly look forward to the first warm weekend of Spring too. On that note, it's time for bed.
  11. Yes, there’s got to be a chance of some of us getting a decent snowfall early next week. I’m not at all convinced it’ll break down to Atlantic sourced weather quickly either. I’d favour a cold dryish spell afterwards (although, to be fair, my confidence isn’t high)
  12. I decided to look at the model thread tonight, after reading a couple of posts here and was glad I did, as Chionomaniac posted something which confirmed my thoughts about shortwaves (a term that seems to be generically used on the model thread, by many posters, to describe any mid latitude depression. In my mind a shortwave is a short lived, generally shallow depression) Basically he said that shortwaves appearing on a chart were a symptom of a block having weaknesses, rather than a cause of the block weakness. His description is totally intuitive. Think of how hard it can be sometimes for an established high pressure to be shifted and how they can deflect a whole series of depressions. I think a lot of posters there could argue that lung cancer would cause someone to have started smoking 50 years earlier.
  13. Morning all. I find it strange that people post about the models, in the Model Thread, as though they are living entities, who are personally trying to wind them up! I don't spend too much time in there, as although there are some really knowledgeable, decent posters there, there's too much in there that adds nothing to my thoughts and it's time consuming looking for the posts of value to me. People have a right to post their interpretation of the models, but I think a lot of what is posted is pretty misleading to be honest. Anyway, weather wise, it's dry here with shallow low to mid level cloud and it looks like a 'sunny intervals' kind of day (if the cloud doesn't break) Temperature of 3.5C.
  14. I'm reading back through the posts now and can see one or two sarcastic ones aimed at JP. All I'd say is what's the point in them? He's very unlikely to have posted badly about those people, so I don't get it. A great contributor to this thread imho.
  15. Evening all. The snow here this evening was just nuisance value earlier and turned to rain. I'm definitely getting the feeling that late Sunday and Monday are a time to watch, as has been pointed out in many posts.
  16. All he's doing is looking at the close proximity of a low pressure centre to the south of England, which usually means heavier precipitation. He's then looking at cold air being forecast to be in place and then extrapolating with some fantasy stuff. This sort of post is bound to grab lots of attention. Like Coast has said, to predict a general 1 1/2 to 2 feet of snow, this far out, is, frankly, ridiculous.
  17. Morning all. Almost clear here and it's good to see the sun nicely risen. Temperatures of about 2C, but with the moderate to fresh winds, ice isn't really an issue here currently, thankfully.
  18. I love sunny, warm weather, as I reckon the majority of people, even on this forum, do. It just gives so many more options of things to do. Okay, you may argue that you can dress for almost any weather eventuality, but walking through thick mud on a country ramble (for instance) would be comparatively unpleasant for 99% of the population, than walking on dry paths in the sunshine. You can obviously apply the same logic to many other outdoor activities. I'm sure sunny weather also boosts the economy, with the caveat that occasional rain is needed for agriculture and the like. I look forward to one last pronounced cold shot this winter, then roll on fine sunny days, as far as I'm concerned!
  19. Morning all. Mild and sunny at the moment, although I did have moderate showers on the drive in to work. It looks like it'll soon be cold and windy though. I just thought I'd post this link from the Met Office. It must be quite rare for such a large swathe of the seas to the northwest of the country to have these sea states... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/marine/shipping_forecast.html#All~All
  20. Afternoon all. A cloudy breezy lunchtime here and 4C. I've seen a transit van crashed into bushes near where I live. Obviously due to earlier icy conditions. It’s a bit of a disgrace really. This ice is being caused by a long standing – over a year easily – water leak. A local woman was killed recently in the same area.
