  1. Just noticed its back Great I can’t even bring myself to talk about last winter. It has to be the worse type of winter imaginable. Last snow here was January 2013. Not a huge amount though. I remember having to get to the hospital. About the only excitement of that winter. At the start of every winter I convince myself we’re going to experience the next big one. I’m not necessarily talking 47 or 63. I’d be over the moon to experience another Jan 1982 (not that I can remember much of that). Or 2009/2010. Best winter for me in terms of the number of big snow falls here. Just hoping that wasn’t a 1 in 20 or 30 year event. Things are looking much more interesting this year though so fingers crossed!
  2. Yes. Officiallly worse here than Wednesday according to local weather station figures. I've probably had 1 hour of sleep. Whole row of tiles hanging over the edge waiting to fly off into neighbours conservatory again. They were only put back on Thursday. That's the 4th roof damage this winter. When will it ease?
  3. Anyone have an idea of wind gusts we can expect tomorrow/Saturday? I struggle to find that info anywhere just general wind speed forecasts Thanks
  4. Am I right in saying this latest storm seems to be staying west a little longer before crossing the UK? The forecast wind for South/South West Wales is down on yesterday and the warning has dropped to yellow from yesterdays amber. Which explains why it's the North West that looks now to take the brunt as highligted by Bobby above.
  5. Absolutely crazy outside. It is howling! Another 3 or 4 tiles off. The 2nd lot this winter. Smashed the neighbours conservatory roof too. It makes me nervous everytime the gusts kick up. I need a drink!
  6. Strangely quiet here. I hope I haven't spoke to soon. It maybe the SSE direction (showing on local weather station) helping to shelter me a bit. Its been a whole lot worse a number of times this winter resulting in roof damage so I hope it stays this way. Just looking at the latest radar. Has it stalled a little further west than original forecast?
  7. A dusting on the hills above 300m by the looks here. Nothing down with me though. A few cold lovers saying they would now be happy with just dry weather whether it be mild or cold. I have to say I agree.I was hoping I wouldnt see such a prolongled wet spell for a very long time after 2012 but here we are again so soon. I can't cope with any more!
  8. 4th warmest on record so far! How depressing is that. I could deal with that if it wasn't for the rain. Anything but constant rain in any season. Not even a sniff of snow so far. Not even a wet soggy flake. That's got to be unusual even for the UK. I hope we don't get our winter in March and April again. It was a proper slog last year. But at least we had a cracking summer.
  9. This is becomming quite a exceptional spell of weather. We've had a battering for over a week. Around 6am this morning we heard several gusts of wind accompanied by torrential rain. Then a huge crack and rattling. A whole row of tiles had disslodged and a few have come away completely. One ended up on the roof of next doors conservatory but miraculously didn't damage the glass.
  10. As a child it was like being transported to another world and 2nd only to Christmas in the excitement it gave. Sometimes even more so due to the surprise factor. I still get that feeling now even though I'm in my 30's. I have to get out in it ASAP. It is also one of the few occasions that bring people together. Neighbours seem to talk more and strangers say 'morning' with a big smile on their faces. Although we would all probably want more of it in this country the fact that it happens occasionaly makes it special, so even though we can all get frustrated at times I'm happy to live in a country that makes it so special.
  11. Although I will look forward to any cold spell part of me is thinking I would rather wait until just before Christmas. The weather seems to never want to give us a good set up for Christmas. I hope this year is an exception
  12. It's looking like a predominately dry BH weekend and a nice settled week to end summer. Can’t moan about that. I’ve really enjoyed this summer. Not sure what the stats will tell us but I feel it’s the best overall summer I’ve experienced since 2003. The few unsettled spells were bearable because there always seemed to be an end in sight, which is a complete turnaround form recent summers. It’s really restored by faith in the Welsh summer. Have a great summer bank holiday!
  13. I agree. And this evening is a stunner. Warm and still but not uncomfortably hot. Just right. A proper smell of summer in the air too. This summer has been fantastic so far.
  14. Feels quite different this morning. Quite a cool North Easterly breeze with a lot of (broken) cloud. The cloud is fairly low and is obscuring the top of the mountain, haven't seen that for a while. 1st morning in a long time without clear blue skies. Thermometer says 20c at 08:25 but feels fresher than that. This, in my opinion, is the best summer I've experienced since 2003. Long dry and sunny spell at the start of June. Then a bit of a mix but no wash out before this stunning 2 week plus (to date) hot and sunny period. 2006 in my eyes was concetrated to an extremely hot 2 week spell (during which I was on holiday in Greece - typical!). Something unusual I've noticed since the start of June which is in complete contrast to recent summers and is quite unusual. Early June Wales and more so West Wales was the sunniest place in the UK and during this spell on numerous days Wales has seen the highest temperatures. Thanks to the position of high pressure I believe.
  15. Hot and steamy at Llangennith, Gower. Arrived on June 29th. A few poor days the 1st week (generally good though) but since last Friday it's been absolutely stunning. Just managed to wangle an extra 2 days off work so will be leaving on Satuday now. I have been so lucky this summer. 1st 10 days of June at Wisemans Bridge (near Tenby) and now this! It's been a long time coming. I hope we don't have to wait another 6/7 years for the next decent summer.
  16. I remember camping in Tenby in early June. I think it was 2005 (could have been 2004). It was freezing! It was then reported that it was the lowest recorded June temperature for x number of years.
  17. I don't think we can't moan with start of summer 2013. Wall to wall sunshine for the 1st 9 or 10 days (in West Wales at least where I was on hols), I understand back home in Cwmbran wasn't quite as good. And a fairly decent week this week. I'm trying not to visit the model thread as much as it's not reflecting what I've experienced so for this month. Some posts are ridiculously depressing. Got my fingers crossed for the 1st 2 weeks of July. My next holiday. Can't expect another cloudless fortnight but mainly dry & warmish will do me. A proper heatwave would be nice though.
  18. I have to say I'm getting a little confused with comments like "the unsettled conditions are set to continue" in the BBC monthly forecast & doom & gloom by some in the model thread. What unsettled conditions? We just had a lovely weekend and a dry week forecast. Pretty good for May I would say. Conditions looks benign at worse with maybe more cloud than perhaps some would like but surely it could be a lot worse. I'm thinking the setup this spring is completely different from the last few years i.e. no early heat wave, no record rainfall. So I’m very optimistic on our forthcoming Summer. It seems some can’t see and end to our run of poor summers but that run will end and I still don't see any reason why it doesn't end this year.
  19. I also recall the 1st week of June was a complete washout. I remember waiting to paint the outside of the house but the weather was aweful.
  20. Quite warm & close last night. It's been a while since it felt like that. I'm still quite optimistic on the forthcoming summer. But that means nothing as I have been saying that for the last 6 summers around this time of year. Gonna be right one day though Still got bit of wood to burn so wouldn't mind a few cooler spells before proper summer kicks in
