  1. Hill tops had covering of snow this morning. Looked like around 300m and above affected. I have enjoyed this dry spell. Bit chilly at times but loving the lack of rain. Sat in the garden on Saturday. Thermometer said 10c but felt like 20c in the sun. Lovely! Really looking forward to the warm up now.
  2. Same here. It's been off and on for a few hours but now heavier and prolonged.
  3. What a difference a bit of sun makes. Cloudeless skies here. Stunning day. I was only sat in the sun for 5 minutes and wanted to crack open a beer. I resisted though. Few things to do before that.
  4. So thats 2 forecasts almost completely opposite. Out of interest how did the 2 perform last year?
  5. Does that have more impact on the Northern hemisphere or is it just the timing? I seem to remember some relationship with sun spots and the jet stream. I maybe wrong there. Just seen a report that Australia has just confirmed it's hottest summer on record.
  6. Proper dry smell this though. How long since the last significant rain fall? The ground is finally drying out nicely. I've waked the dogs on routes that have been pretty much impassable since last March.
  7. Maybe because it was so bloody aweful . It was bad enough living through it let alone writing about it. I would love the thread to stay open though and hopefully there'll be plenty to discuss not just rain.
  8. I've been really trying not to say "it can't get any worse" (cursed it now). But it has for the last 6 summers. We have got to be due a good'n haven't we. Not sure I could cope with another like last year. I really do hope we don't have a scorching Spring. That usually means no summer. Normal seasons for me and a good few dry hot spells during the summer and I would be more than happy.
  9. Aye. Looking forward to spring now. Days are getting noticeably longer which always make me feel good. is it to early to ask what people are expecting for spring/summer for us in Wales?
  10. Torrential rain and a very long rumble of thunder just a second ago. Thunder & lightening 2 nights on the trot. Bit weird for January
  11. yes. Lovely morning here. Milky blue sky. The mountain and fields look as white as yesterday (from a distance) but significant snow melt in the garden. still about 70-80% coverage. The conifers seem to have sprung back to life after a week of being weighed down by the snow. So this is the 8th day of snow cover. I mentioned on "red alert" Friday that the snow depth would not get into my top 10. The longevity of snow cover certainly would. Currently 4c.
  12. Inspired by Welshwizard to finally post some pics. Taken last Saturday on a walk in Llanfrechfa, Cwmbran. Photos of Cwmbran looking towards Mynydd Maen & upper Cwmbran. It would have looked stunning with the sun setting behind the mountain but didn't get home in time. Can't take any credit for the snow man.
  13. Already -1.5 here. Drove to the North East (Durham) yesterday morning. I have to say we have a lot more snow than anywhere else. It was like driving back into winter wonderland coming back into Wales this afternoon. Mist over rivers & valleys looked stunning. So is that if for now? Tomorrow looks like a bit of leading edge stuff then wind and rain for a while. Personaly I've enjoyed the snow but I've had my fix. not saying I don't want to see anymore but I wouldn't mind a prolonged dry period now. Anything but more rain.
  14. I hope your pain eases my friend. Radar looking good for you right now
  15. moderate to heavy here for the last 2 hours. Good covering.
  16. I was under the impression that it was forecast but they expressed the uncertainty was higher than normal. It was only a few inches so hardly the end of the world. I think you're being a little harsh on this occasion Andy yellow warning stated 2 - 5cm & 5 - 10cm on higher ground
  17. Up to 3 inches of fresh snow here. Even though it was forecast as a possibility I wasn't expecting it. Well, my £4 snow shovel from Aldi has proved it's worth this year. Gonna have arms like Schwarzenegger if I have to clear my drive anymore. Made it to work. The main roads improve as you get into Newport. But take it easy! More tonight then? I was planning to travel to the North East tomorrow after I postponed it today. Looking unlikely I have to say.
  18. Welsh and national weather forecasts both going for prolonged snowfall over south east & mid Wales. From 05:00 to 14:00 tomorrow. Could be problematic again
  19. I suppose it depends on proximity & size of the feature. I just presumed an intense area of low pressure to the south of Wales would bring strong winds & snow leading to blizzards.
  20. Very true. I also recognise how spoilt we have been since 2009. Also I agree with Pyrotech. The fact that it will be on the ground for quite a while due to the low temps differentiates it from a normal transitional "events" which is usually the best we can hope for. Would be great to have a proper raging channel low though. We're well over due I would say. Could this year be the one?
  21. Same here. We had 3 falls deeper during Dec 09 and Jan 10 (missed out on the very deep stuff during December 2010). Very nice though. No drifting at all here. It was very still most of the day. Not exactly the roaring blizzard I was expecting. Wouldn't make the top 10 of snow falls here in my 34 (almost 35) years.
