I think we have a different take on the wording then,i detect a sarcastic tone,'a whats the big deal elemant'. Maybe your in a sheltered spot? I have friends just inland of Falmouth and they have no power and trees down,so your report on Devon not universal.
But then Falmouth is not universal is it. Not all Devon has been affected so why not report on that as well without getting slammed for it

I am sure those with really serious problems will be sympathetic, perhaps, with your post. Not a sensible or caring post in my view with all the major issues for so many thousands of people since before Christmas. Maybe a bit more though t before posting in future?
To be fair to Laserguy though he's reporting for his area and it's probably true what he's experiencing in his area. I'm in Southampton at the moment and its a bit gusty, no rain and if I hadn't been on here or read Metoffice warnings, would have just assumed it was a normal windy/showery day that you associate winter with.

More like a SW rain event thankfully - I think rain forecast exaggerated today for the SE

Are those the wave heights of waves coming onto shore, or further out to sea? Either way, it's pretty scary!
A 40 ft wave would probably break in water approx 50-55 ft deep, so way past paddling area !

Cornwall facing the largest waves in the World tomorrow:

And again on Saturday:
That is quite awesome - Used to do a lot of surfing in my youth, but jeez thats way out of my comfort zone. Maybe worth a trip down on saturday to have a look but minus board lol

Pretty exciting period of weather coming up for next week yet again.
This is turning out to be quite a memorable winter albeit not for the usual (snow) reasons

Actually tell a lie - it is pretty squally here now
-
In Southampton at the moment and according to the radar it should be raining moderately here, but just light drizzle. Think this could be over hyped as a rainfest

Don't have a look at this if your of a nervous disposition

A worrying amount of rain to look forward to - insane 10 day prediction
-
what about all the other forecasters who predicted a colder and drier than average winter and especially the ones who forecast a mild start to winter but then becoming much colder by mid January? I could forecast that kind of forecast without even glancing at any charts, the sun, stratosphere, etc. What utter tosh.
Quite, long range seasonal forecasting is impossible. Anyone forecast this monsoon winter ? hmm no thought not,

Oh dear .. the mad modellers have all thrown in the towel, put up the white flag and admitted defeat from our big lovely Atlantic ocean, well direction thereof!! .. Cold spells bring much misery to lots of our folk not to mention accidents but still the coldaphillics gnash their teeth .. it is a rather bizarre fetish .. go to the Alps the snow is lovely at the moment .. bring on a nice mild warm late winter..
I think your lovely atlantic rain is causing far more misery than any snow would

Not even February and winter is over ! Must be a first for a number of years.

If you need a laugh, have a look at maddens twitter page and the comments - hilarious, cheered me up anyway

Winter weather is associated with cold and hopefully snow and I'd say a large majority would like it cold and dry - Likewise in the summer the thread is normally filled with people looking for warm sunny weather and anyone looking for cool/ wet usually gets a few brickbats thrown at themthat wasnt the issue, its the % of cold lovers in the general populice that is vs the % of coldies on the forums.

Presume you mean " looking "else I'd see a doctorWaiting for wintry weather in winter 2013/14 is akin to having sex... It's a painstaking and arduous task that seems to go on and on forever, and just when you think things are going your way, nothing happens.

Can never understand these forecasters who whenever they get asked about the coming week they cite that there are more pressing concerns re the rain this weekend. Err what are these guys doing - manning the flood barriers themselves or what.
I think everyone knows there will be a lot of rain coming up and all the relevant authorities have been notified and warnings issued, so always seems to me to be a an odd phrase which is wheeled out every time we have a lot of rain forecast
-
it might be a random figure, but its pretty accurate. only on here and other weather forums do the minority come out to play the snow spotting game. in real life i dont know anyone who wants snow, or cold, thats just what the seasonal crowd on these forums would have you believe.
stick to your guns, you are spot on.
right im off until the snowmad have left and some decent, unbiased, weather discussion can take place.
excellant track!
and why not - it is winter !!
-
According to Darren Bett, a cold snap at the beginning of the week lasting a few days only, then milder at towards end of week.
Woohoo...not. Have a feeling there could be some severe backtracking from the models tonight, so could get ugly in there
-
Checking the BBC weather for London has a max temp of anything from -1 to +10 ! presume that shows that the block could still hold till weekend, but thats one heck of a spread
-
Looks like it will be cold wet and miserable for most of us from mid next week. Some snow up north and at higher elevations but no real sustained wintery blast. Met Office have obviously got more information at their disposal than the NW big guns and that's why they seem pretty sure about westerlies returning by the end of next week.
I'm not so sure, but must admit surprised at how bullish they were on a westerly zonal return by end of next week. Reckon the next update will still repeat that but put it back a few days..interesting times for sure

Gibby this, Gibby that on the Mod thread - leave the guy alone. Seems to happen every winter when his interpretation doesn't match coldies expectations. Funny thing is he'll probably be correct !
Ah no he's wrong - Metcheck (who are never wrong of course) have London down for almost 12cm on 1st feb ! haha
