Just watching BB Live and Divina is in what I'd say is 70% darkness, and here it's 80% daylight - quite a noticeable difference this time of year. -

Yep - I've always thought it pretty rubbish too!

Unlike all other UK and IE radars, that update every 5 mins, the SW Ireland radar only updates every 15 mins, so every third image includes it. Completely outwith nw's control.

Aye - just four deep mines left in the UK http://www.ukcoal.com/dm-locations (Can't remember which of these has recently, or is about to close). Just noticed the GFS 18z is forecasting sleet down to sea level here tomorrow night. Let's see if it's as accurate as tonight's temperatures in the NE might turn out

Folk here at work reporting snow in gardens up to 7am in West Lothian and white hills. Personally, I've seen cars with snow on them early this morning through town.

Have driven Edinburgh - Oban and back this week for work, and there's plenty of snow up high, with say 25% coverage. Even the Pentlands next to Edinburgh have a handful patches left. -
