  1. I know! This year it really has been a continental style climate for the Highlands.
  2. Nope. The official weather stations are all sited using the same rules. It's common for the central highlands to be so warm in these conditions.
  3. So Aviemore can claim a 38ºC variance in temperature in just 2 months. (My back of the envelope estimate without any checking mind )
  4. Oh no. The dreaded haar season will be upon us soon. Sunny and 23ºC at Edinburgh airport, 11ºC and fog with drizzle in town.
  5. There's snow up the slopes of Arthur's Seat (251m) in Edinburgh today - and nothing lying in 2/3rds of the city all around it. That's only the second time I have seen this to such a degree here in my 13 years. An interesting lesson for me last night was how after over 36 hours of torrential rain (and boy it was persistently heavy), snow readily settled on all surfaces within an hour of the change from rain through sleet to snow - the dewpoint simply went down to 0ºC and the snow was heavy enough. Never let it be said that we need the soil to cool, or that the ground is too saturated etc etc - last night proved it means nothing in the right conditions.
  6. That chart wouldn't do that LS. The enemy of mountain snow in the Scotland is mild wet weather - settled sunny and warm at sea level this time of year, but it would be chilly at height, and only really affect south facing slopes etc.
  7. Aye I've just looked outside and it's white over and billowing down with snow. Tsk. re the rada - the ppn is moving towards Edinburgh from the ENE.
  8. 24 hours of ridiculously heavy sleet and rain continues here and it's still blowing a hooley. Very horrible indeed out and about.
  9. Blowing a hooley and sleeting sideways here at 4/2ºC.
  10. Interesting chart for those of us in the Central Belt for tomorrow evening. The -5ºC 850hpa line straddles from Edinburgh to Glasgow all tomorrow night... We then continue with ppn over the same area for 72 hours - with 850s of between -4 and -6ºC...
  11. There's nothing in this list SB: http://www.popastro.com/sections/meteor/showers.htm
  12. Brilliant - I thought you were a rock God for a moment there! (your profile page is still showing the blue sun thingy)
  13. I think I can see you James - red jacket? Do a forced cache clear - ctrl+F5
  14. Yes - I was on the train today between Dundee and Glasgow. And the snow between Perth and Stirling is simply outrageous. Right down to track side and several inches deep - and the piles of the stuff alongside roads/car parks and even on Gleneagles station can be measured in feet.
  15. Everything above 200-250m in Lothian, Fife and Perth & Kinross still shining white
  16. Just an interest Blitzen - I like to keep up with the latest... Great snowdrifts though, will take a while to get that line open.
  17. http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/photos/Infrastructure/page1/ Photos of the west highland line
  18. Bizarrely, 27 Jan recorded 11ºC here. Before that it was 8 Dec when we reached 10ºC.
  19. It's 1/1ºC here - and pelting it down with rain...
  20. Now there's a potential negative feedback nobody saw coming!
