  1. Phil Avery today giving a very upbeat summery forecast. Enjoyed watching the animated Atlantic Pressure system charts, showing the high pressure mving in from the SW over the UK and into Scandi with the low pressure set to develop in the Irish Sea mid week.
  2. Going by your figures Mr D - say Edinburgh achieves 25% obscured - do you have any sources that discuss whether we would actually notice?!
  3. Just as a pointless nugget of trivia from the depths of my head, the largest 'nest' of adders ever found in the UK was discovered during the construction of the M74 motorway upgrade about 10 years ago up Beattock. It caused delays to the construction/upgrade of the then dual carriageway.

  5. The previous thread on this subject is still lurking in Serious Discussion Nick - with loads of different links: http://www.netweather.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=44678
  6. I think in a couple of hundred years it may be a valuable source of rare elements that is of enormous usefulness - with futuristic technologies etc. But it's a bit of a gamble that's for sure!
  7. Think about it. Rockets aren't exactly 100% reliable and many have been known to blow up after launch. Imagine all that highly toxic irradiated waste scattered in the atmosphere?
  8. Unless mining, enrichment, transport and reproccessing of fuel is factored into the carbon footprint of nuclear.... None in Scotland though

  10. I've just pulled this out of the archive for a quick look and to make a quick comment (as I'm just back, tanned, from a two week holiday in Hungary and Sweden and therefore missed the month's result). Obviously, I'm not going to mention my position which is 2nd only to Paul B amongst the entire NW Team , but to say a massive thanks to Jackone whose wizzardry with the excel spreadsheet is becoming legendary in my book
  11. Use a programme that will resize your photos! Type 'photo resizing' into google. Or if you have Microsoft Office, the MS Office Picture Manager will do it for you.
  12. There's been a nightmare uploading tonight Shadow - I'll take a look in the morning. One photo in particular just would not unload and I had to put it through 'Paint', change it to a .bmp and back to a .jpg before it would go into the gallery. Very peculiar! Thanks for the heads-up
  13. That's all the photos entered into the May Photo Comp loaded into the Gallery - so let the voting begin! WEATHER PHOTO GALLERY NON WEATHER PHOTO GALLERY Voting is easy. Simply have a look through the two galleries and decide on your five favourite photos from each - so that's TEN PHOTO CHOICES IN TOTAL. Then post your choices by replying in this thread. An example - if you like SY 1.jpg, simply list SY1 as one of your top five photos for each category (ten in total) in your post below. As you will notice the numbers of all the non-weather photos are prefixed with an 'N' - please quote this. If I have missed your photo and it's not in the gallery - please let me know. The most popular choices with then be entered into the final, which will be held later in the month, after this vote closes on Tuesday 1st July at 18h00. The winning 'weather' category entry will appear in the 2009 netweather.tv Calendar. You don't have to vote in both categories if you don't want to - or you can do up to five at at any time on different days - that's fine
  14. Phwaaooooor - what a scorcher. 17.7C
  15. Fresh news on the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7461707.stm
  16. You make me happy lg Let that be a warning If anyone can't say it in fewer than 12 words, go spam another thread!
  17. In fewer than 12 words. That's two deletions anymore? You lot in here are insufferable! Stick to the rules or be scribbled on.
  18. Hello lovely Climate Change debaters. To lighten the discussions in this often heated arena, but to use as a tool to identify the perspective from which a member might post an opinion - how about posting in this thread as follows: One post only per member each please. Complete the following sentence in no more than 12 more words: As regards global warming, I believe that.... Just like the tie-break in a Weetabix competition.
  19. That's an interesting one you've stumbled on PP. Gravity is the one force in nature that is 'wrong' in the models of theoretical physicists and screws up the much sought-after 'Theory of Everything'.
  20. From: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_...st_weather.html A complete u-turn on the temps at the end of the period then! **apols Stuart - thought you were away **
  21. Well, the result is in! Weather photo: ES [ 12 ][34.29%] K9 A [ 9 ][25.71%] WM [ 14 ][40.00%] And non-weather shot: K9 B [ 17 ][48.57%] MB [ 9 ][25.71%] SK [ 9 ][25.71%] So congratulations to: Weathermaster and Kar999 respectively! Good work guys
