  1. A uniform grey day here. Not been over the door, but the windows have been wide open :o
  2. I suspect you are impressed with the statistic and its significance Mr D - not the real-life experience?!
  3. For me, that's a brave call. Below average rainfall in the autumn period... Hmmm. Well the site says: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/seasonal/winter2008_9/ So just keep checking!
  4. According to the 24hr accumulation calculator on the nw radar - some areas of NI have had a soaking of over 90mm in the last 24 hrs:
  5. They're still sticking with it today John!
  6. Yep, that's a nasty one. My niece is allergic to ginger - but loves curries! I suppose the problem as PP alluded to, is in the more obscure tiny amounts of random chemicals rather than 'natural' food groups and types of food we all know and love (or hate). I'd pack it all in if I became allergic to my favourite veg - sprouts.
  7. My best pal is allergic to phenylalanine and comes out in hives. She's very cautious nowadays, reading ingredient small print in supermarkets etc., but fizzy drinks are most definitely out. Even lime cordial as in 'vodka, lime & soda' has it in it in most pubs - she has to have a three shot limit per evening. Awwww
  8. From my admittedly subjective memory , it's been down below 5/6ºC several times all summer at various central and northern Scottish stations - including during July. So I suppose the 'first frost' definition of 'winter' needs a bit of a clearer definition!
  9. Out of interest Mr D - what was your final index figure for summer 2007?
  10. Well, it's a miracle - it stopped raining about 5pm... You gonna make an offer?! It's the top story on the Scots news Pit - they've been worried about this dam since the start of the week - very reminiscent of Ulley as you say. Most Intercity trains leaving Edinburgh 100+mins late this afternoon, and footage on the tv of the southern and northern tunnels at Haymarket in Princes Street Gardens under a foot of water. The city bypass has reopened, but the bus service across the city is still knackered. What an odd day! Met Office say all of August's rainfall has come down in the last 48 hours.
  11. Yes that clearly deserves a warning! - bit of spray on the motorway and the meto issue that. But if your house is flooding in Edinburgh and the trains are completely knackered affecting services across the whole of the UK cos of flooding - there's no need to bother.
  12. So we've got the main city bypass A720 closed. At least five main roads in the city closed. Houses, shops etc. flooded literally 10 minutes walk from where I am sitting at work. The mailine railway between Haymarket and Waverley is closed due to flooding in Princes Street Gardens. And the met office says: In other words we are to worry about what might happen on Saturday, but everything is fine today... So what exactly are Weather Warnings/Flashes for?!
  13. Nope - the only warnings are for the west. Surprising might be an understatement! Imagine if the mainline out of Waterloo was closed due to flooding... News24 cameras would be there boring us tears.
  14. Situation just keeps getting worse now. The East Coast Mainline through Edinburgh is now shut due to flooding. Headline in the local rag: http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/topstori...mmer.4366909.jp
  15. It's now been raining heavily here for 36 hours. The city is in chaos - flooding everywhere. Roads closed, houses flooded, buses diverted. Marvellous. What a lovely summery spell
  16. Thanks for posting ZL - that's just reminded me of my wee trip at the weekend. Visited Grantown on Spey and on driving up the A9 I did a rubberneck to check out the top of Cairngorm. I counted 4 sizeable patches visible from the Aviemore bypass - impressive for the start of August.
  17. Can we stick to discussing the topic please - if anyone wants to complain about a poster, press !Report - if anyone wants to discuss other matters to do with membership, please contact a member of the Team.
  18. Rain and grey, grey, grey here unfortunately. I was all ready with a pin hole strategically punched through a rather rude letter from the bank.
  19. A respectable 90 minutes of storm this evening, just finishing now. Two waves of electrical activity and heavy rain - the second being by far the more impressive. Not bad for coastal eastern Scotland <_<
  20. Come on, admit it, you did that on purpose and you and Karl have a bet on on how long it would take somebody to notice? Do I win a prize?
  21. Brilliant. And here's the but.... The T850 + SLP 1 & 4mb maps seem to be identical Paul?
  22. A familiar story blackdown - a little activity is to be welcomed though!
