  1. Can't not disagree with you, The Highlands have become a money magnet to please and drive folk up there, I remember when I was a young lad living in Strontian it was much different. The place was so wild and unpopulated, like going back in time.. it still is compaired to the South it's just very slowly catching up with many houses being purchased for holiday lets and folk from all over taking the opportunity to live there because of social media.
  2. Reading many professional data-sets, The pattern we are about to enter certainly entertains the best early winter for the past decade at least. With that in mind and what the current models show even within the reliable timeframe it's the best winter prognosis for a long time..
  3. Let's forget about spelling, even I get it wrong sometimes.. on with the models, this isn't an Eglish Fred
  4. I'm finding very difficult to add anything, So I'm sitting back reading some excellent posts. It's been a long time since we have seen such charts...
  5. Yes ha even with a ferret finder it could take hours. Those were the days..
  6. I can always remember the thumping sound the rabbits made before they ran out.. was out every Sunday come rain or shine..
  7. Used to the exactly the same with long nets and purse nests and a 12bore at the ready incase one escaped.... Those were the days! Rabbit or Pheasant stew was my staple diet. Still love it now mind but not as often. Used to shoot ducks and Hares also but I tend to get them off other folk as as I've grown older I don't like killing animals. Also my grandad had the local shoot and used to work on Haddon Estate picking up with my dogs so plenty of free game..
  8. If your cold you will burn more energy in your body so warmth always comes first. Otherwise your health will go downhill fast!
  9. Absolutely grow buckets of late potatos and store them in hesian sacks, lasts me all winter with January King cabbage maturing now in the garden. All my meat is cheap reduced and straight into to freezer!
  10. Im not sure, I just know that since the budget they have upped it from £100 to £200. Yes winter tyres going on here to next week
  11. We should be getting I think £200 now not £100 paid into our electric account because not on gas. So that should help. But no idea when this will happen
  12. It's the heart of the home, I use it for everything I can to save money.
  13. The dogs love it when range is on, I use it for everything even drying cloths. With the price of oil... Yes the smell also of fresh chopped wood is something els!
  14. Always best to chop it when it's wet, much easier. Or even better when frozen
  15. Much the same here with no gas and living very remote got an Aga range for cooking heating and hot water. We also have a fire in the living room and spend every summer collecting wood and chopping. It's so therapeutic and something I've grown up with having to do.. Aga range is on now 24/7 just ticking over, when it gets very cold I light the fire.
  16. I think some folk need to realise the models don't exactly reflect the weather at the flick of a switch. Especially looking at charts into the extended runs..
  17. Very locked in cold from the ECM tonight. A very interesting period of model watching continues !
  18. Just want to add this in for interest by weather history... Re-the current model patern as Crew points out above. https://community.netweather.tv/topic/34001-the-winter-of-1995-96/
  19. Models are looking very promising indeed for cold wintry weather into December. With such a disturbed PV this early in the season it's something we haven't seen for a good 12 years or so... This isn't a ramp by the way
