  1. just to add, i wonder how many trees have been damaged or severely weakened by this storm. all it takes is for one of those trees to finally give up the ghost on a breezy day, days or even weeks down the line, come crashing down on a car and the so-called "non-event" claims another victim. i've seen it happen
  2. "a non-event" "a downgrade" "over-hyped"........ really?...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-24701419
  3. as it happens, the same thing has happened here. i've had some hefty gusts coming off the fields behind my house today and it has generally been very windy all day. now however, there's hardly a breath of wind....
  4. met office latest observations are showing wind speed of 5mph in camborne with no gusts! - http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/observations/london-greater-london#?tab=map&map=Wind&fcTime=1382860800&zoom=8&lon=-4.86&lat=50.42 that must be quite freaky considering whats on the way. my wife is in st ives for the week and she said the wind was howling earlier today.
  5. its still there (if you mean the 996mb centre) the first isobar is now 996mb which means it has deepened slightly
  6. any chance we could wait and see what actually happens before tearing the MetO to pieces?
  7. well if you managed to arrive safely at the office it couldn't have needed a red warning...
  8. lol same here. predicted wind speeds for here (via netweather-http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=wind;sess=) are not much lower than you! my house is surrounded by trees, some of which have seen better days. especially the ones over the road (main A281 between horsham and guildford) a couple of them have come down in the past couple of years, in winds nowhere near as high as those predicted!!
  9. not if we get power cuts lol i assume you mean lightning, in which case its possible but there are thundery showers forecast for tomorrow morning, so you never know...
  10. don't be silly! keep posting- especially as you have a front row seat to this storm! if anyone jumps on you, this knight will come to the aid of a damsel in distress!
  11. very true nick. what some people seem to forget is that the models are showing us snapshots at 3 hour intervals. 3 hours is a long time to be battered by a storm and a lot of damage can occur in that time
  12. well i do property maintenance, including roofing. (amongst most other things) i'll do you a netweather discount!
  13. i hope i've got enough beer... i might have to panic-buy tomorrow!!
  14. it could well be. if so, we do have plenty of warning so do the right thing. put anything away which might blow away. don't go out if you don't have to. (as exhilarating as a storm can be- a smack on the head by a large tree branch will ruin your day) most of all DON'T GO CAMPING!!
