South East and East Anglia Regional Discussion 12th March 2013

just been out and noticed a few flakes in the headlights. looking at the radar, some light showers around, now picking up in intensity. they appear to be making it from EA right down to almost the south coast.- 775 replies

quite possibly. the charts won't show details at that range but the wind direction is from the east and the blues are (as you might think) cold uppers. with low pressure running under it like that, theres a chance heavy of snowfall. the charts from the weather we just had looked similar to those i posted.- 775 replies

your snow is coming from the showers off the north sea, as is most of the heavier snow round the region. the channel stuff isn't really having much of an effect....... yet.......- 783 replies

Today: Snow at times across southern areas, with a risk of more prolonged and perhaps heavy snow across Kent and East Sussex later today. Elsewhere scattered snow showers. Feeling exceptionally cold. Gales or even severe gales developing along the coast. Maximum temperature 2 °C. severe gales????- 783 replies

lol!.... the low is definitely further north and on a slow moving track. the precip is headed straight for us. lets hope it can keep up the intensity, if so we could be looking at... well.... lets just say ground level could be a good few inches higher in the morning.... and white.....- 1,011 replies

i saw that but it didnt quite tally with the sat images. i'm wondering if a smaller LP spawned from the main one, which has possibly dragged the whole system further north- 1,011 replies

hi nick, do you agree that the LP system is further north than forecast? http://www.sat24.com/en/eu if so whats your opinion? i've also been watching the pressure observations on xcweather and they seem to have been further north than the forecast charts- 1,011 replies

South East and East Anglia Regional Discussion 9th March 2013
bobbydog replied to Snowangel-MK's topic in Regional
having looked through various observation sources (satellite, radar, xcweather pressure obs etc) comparing them to forecasts and fergie's posts regarding precip modelling difficulty, i would advise largely ignoring precip forecast charts. i have a feeling they are greatly underplaying the potential snow amounts for the southern counties (an opinion cautiously shared by the met office apparently) i think this snow event (for some) will have the OMG! factor........- 807 replies
