  1. GFS is quite good for the SW over the weekend, as it gives snow for many and mainly snow, very little rain. However when you compare it with the NAE at lower depth nae is indicating heavily that even the likes of east somerset and north dorset might see pure snow. 4 charts 2 from nae showing 1000-850 thickness and dps and the same from gfs. Nae dps of -1, gfs dps of 2.

Key for me is the thinkness chart which indicates the cold in place before the precip for many people, far more than the meto are predicting, we could see a big improvement from the meto for snow in our region.

Longer range, gem, meto, EC EPS etc all going for prolonged cold and thats good enough for me.

Thanks for the update iceberg, mod thread very confusing, glad we have some very knowledgeable guys in the sw thread who can sum it up.

  2. Just had a look at the Points West forecast... wow! Maybe one day we will get half as good as that at Look North, that is just how it is meant to be! How on earth are there such massive regional differences in terms of detail? BBC should sort that one out.

He is the dog's danglies for his evening forecasts. As good as or better than the national team with his detailed explanations.

  3. Well West Country people we were treated to this this evening, one of the benefits of the front being close enough to make it cloudy but far enough away to alllow the sun to shine as it set. The edge of the frontal cloud was visible throughout the day, just gradually edging Westwards as the afternoon progressed.

Saw the build up but missed the uber ten or so minutes of it

  4. go back and look at the model thread last weekend. many people said it was going to be a washout. gleefully as well.

i'm all for people commenting on what they see but when they comment on things that are over a week away as though its fact when we all know things don't work out like that i get a little bit annoyed.

Maybe a pinch of salt should be taken before believing what anyone says the exact weather conditions will be in a weeks time?

  5. Very promising BBC Points West forecast from Ian Fergusson this evening.

It showed cloud building into the SW/West Country by this time tomorrow with scattered showers - from experience of these set ups

I'd suggest a lot of AltCas in 24 hours time with sporadic sharp showers.

Whether they develop through the evening is open to question but it must be possible given there's going to be a war, moist plume

pushing North from France and a front/LOW moving in from the Atlantic.

Ian's forecast showed rain with embedded thunderstorms spreading North through tomorrow night with, at the stage, the heaviest rain

expected in the early daylight hours of Thursday (5am ish).

cant remember the last time we had night time lightning, what night time was designed for, amongst other things!
