Well we are 500ft above sea level an hour north of Inverness and we have had deep snow for 9 days now, this was Thursday top up. Looks gradually turning milder with a thaw up here at least temporarily ..

But you're one area 500ft above sea level.  I'm no where near that and have had lying snow for almost a week now in North east England although my snow to yours is just a dusting.   The point I was making is this isn't anything typical and like England the lower lying places in Scotland don't typically see lying snow in December and winter etc as some posts suggest.

Great that you've had a decent fall though!

  2. I don't know where people get this "typical North South split" from with standard affair of snow across Scotland. There's mountains up there but there's also large swathes that get nothing in terms of snow and cold and in recent years I'd say there's been a massive decline. This December is anything but standard and the NH is anything but typical.

Models showing a milder blip from Sunday but where we go from there is anyone's business.  Even met forecasters are scratching their heads it seems.  So hold tight and enjoy the ride.  We have some good options or potentials among the runs and ensembles so I'm going to remain glass half full for now.

I can confirm... Snow shield has been broken.  Got a decent covering here over the last hour or so.

Can't believe some are getting RAIN!!!

Keep an eye on this bunch.  Will they make it to the coast before the wind changes?  Will they intensify?....  Only radar will tell

They're moving more north to south now so see what happens later on.
