  1. Thanks for the updates Liam - any chance of telling me where I can get a wind map (gusts) that shows later than 6pm - just want to have a look for this area?
  2. Are we still in for 70-80mph as per earlier forecasts? Not sure whats happening as it is very calm out there - well compared to the NW?
  3. Aye it's turning out to be quite and event isn't it? Heard a scientist or someone on Beeb earlier saying they may have the timescales wrong re climate change and instead of an anticipated change in climate around 2040 they may need to fast forward considerably. So we may have to get used to these conditions a lot earlier than expected. On another note hope he and everyone's safe down there!
  4. You able to post mate I cant on here? Greater Manchester fire brigade have recalled all staff on to duty as they have 40 live calls currently in progress....
  5. Just heard it on BBC24 as breaking news mate must have been some wind to bring them down hard enough to ignite them....
  6. Power cables on fire around Crew station so yes defo closed!
  7. Is it pretty hairy there Crewe? What are conditions like on the ground there?
  8. Crew rail station has now closed? Further east from you there's hardly anything - which part of the city you in?
  9. It's weird to think these winds are raging about in the west and yet here on the NE coast it's nice and calm - well calm for this area anyway. Stay safe people and do not go out unless you really have to, your life is worth more than a fascination with the weather. If you can though keep the reports coming in from a safe place!
  10. Yeah there is that like - I would say usually we miss the worst but this winter has been anything but "usual" so far! Does anyone know what this system is expected to bomb at pressure wise and approx times? Charts don't open on this PC I am using? Cheers
  11. Wow - that is all.... I know it is exposed but seriously impressive. Red alerts acorss Wales and some parts of NW England - already turning out to be a very major storm. I am not expecting anywhere near those wind speeds up here in the NE and to be fair we always seem a bit sheltered from the worst of the damaging winds. Higher ground further west though could be in for a real battering come rush hour..
  12. Thanks for the updates man - keep safe!
  13. Yup looks nasty mate - they did emphasise with exposure but makes you wonder how bad this is actually going to get. Stay safe and make sure the garden furniture is tied down!
  14. People in those parts of exposed Wales with 100+mph winds gusts (potentially) today stay safe - in fact everyone within the warning areas should make sure they are prepared. This is a nasty LP system which is likely to chuck everything including the kitchen sink at us. Rain, Snow, Gales - horrible day for sure ahead!
  15. Started snowing here now just to add to the mix of weather lol
  16. From xcweather.co.uk - the image says it all really....
  17. That's the thing though Sunni nobody has said that over the past few pages I am confused as to where this has started? As you have said though potentially very stormy across the UK - places that could do without it too. I really am starting to think this winter is just messed up and we need - dare I say it - a nice high pressure to build and dry the place out. Strange times indeed mate but what will be will be. Stay safe peeps tomorrow and the flood stricken areas down south - keeping my fingers crossed that some dry settled weather surfaces soon!
  18. Tell me about it mate. I just seen the pics of the flood areas down south and boy oh boy it puts in into perspective - feel so sorry for those folk like. I am not sure what to make of tomorrow but personally speaking I could do without it only because of work stuff but this winter just seems crazy so far. The winds are likely to pick up in this locale later in the day with local news saying up to 90mph.... can't help feeling (being a weather enthusiast myself) that it's fascinating but maybe a bit too much on top of what we have all had to endure this winter. As you say bring on the snow!
  19. Erm it's an educated statement "north of the M4 experiencing severe gales" not sure what your point is - would you rather say something else? Please elaborate and explain how you would point on a map without referring to the northern UK where the worst winds will be for tomorrows storm system.??
  20. Just seen Beeb weather and winds of 70=80mph across the north from wales to NE England in a diagonal swathe. Actually haven't been monitoring as thought this would be a southern event. Despite the lack of snow this winter one thing is for sure it will go own in history as one to remember for all the wrong reasons. I can't remember a time in my life with so many deep LP systems slamming the UK one after the other....
  21. Well of all the days to be working in London.....I am supposed to get the train back to Newcastle tomorrow afternoon can see it being chaos especially with this tube strike. Hope people in the warning areas stay safe. Windy but not too bad here in Southwark at present but wind definitely picking up.
  22. Well Meto are hinting at an easterly of sorts even if at this stage confined to the NE areas: On Tuesday there will be some rain over northeast Scotland and showers in the west and southwest. However eastern parts are likely to be fine and dry, with frost and a risk of fog patches at first. Strong winds and further rain, heavy at times, are likely to spread from the southwest during Wednesday. Through the week it may become cold in the northeast, with strong easterly winds and wintry showers. Western and southwestern parts are probably going to be less cold and cloudier with further rain. Later in the month it is likely to become less cold and more changeable, with sunny spells and showers or longer periods of rain, these perhaps more likely in the northwest.
  23. Hopefully right over the UK! I am more than taken aback at the huge turnaround today from the models - just goes to prove that nothing is set in stone - hope that they don't flip the other way over night otherwise I will take a valium overdose!
