  1. I am in County Durham - the air has gone really sticky but a breeze has picked up - I am hoping this is building in to something as the sky looks like its brewing something from the south so encouraging from Darlo those reports
  2. It has really built the past half hour or so mate. Is there much rain from it?
  3. Think some mentioned it may be that they are elevated in nature? Feel free to correct me anyone.
  4. That storm over Harrogate area has exploded in the last 15 minutes - right on a collision course for yours truly (if it stays active that is)
  5. Howdy Paul - in your opinion are you saying the areas you mentioned there are higher risk. Or will they be potential breeding grounds for any storms moving north - sorry just didn't understand that mate.
  6. Humid warm and sky looks quite milky and unstable here this morning. Always a good sign bit never a guarantee that something will kick off.
  7. Honestly mate I loved the place first time me and my partner went and already booked for end of May next year. Aye it was strange you could have timed your watch each day even the locals where a tad confused that each day at the same time the thunder would roll in and then stop an hour later. To be fair was probably heat triggering the storms mid day but either was was some great cloud pics. I'll post some later hope you enjoy!
  8. I dunno mind I as in lindos Rhodes last week and it thundered 4 days out of the 7 albeit not directly overhead so you have some chance yet I think!
  9. I am actually loving the Meto forecast for our region over the next few days. Arctic air mass, heavy snow etc etc Northerlies can bring some goods to us as per previous experience. They are also saying that some periods of enhanced snowfall due to the unstable airflow (that's how I read it) spreading from the North. Here is to an exciting period of weather watching, and remember even if it doesn't snow in your own back yard it's still great to get excited at the prospects (if cold and snow are your thing)...
  10. Issued at: 1300 on Wed 28 Jan 2015 Valid from: 0015 on Sun 1 Feb 2015 Valid to: 2345 on Sun 1 Feb 2015 Further snow showers will affect parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday leading to some locally large accumulations and the showers may spread along eastern and western coasts of England and Wales. The showers will be associated with strong winds so drifting and temporary blizzard conditions are possible as well as icy stretches. The public should be aware of the potential for disruption from these conditions. This alert is likely to be updated in the coming days. A very cold airmass will continue to spread southwards from Scotland and Northern Ireland across the remainder of the UK on Sunday accompanied by strong winds. Frequent showers are likely to form in this airmass, primarily affecting northern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland but also running along eastern and western coastal districts of England and Wales at times. With the cold air snow is likely to accumulate even to low levels wherever showers affect. Periods of enhanced snowfall are possible within this general flow but details of these are very uncertain at this time. As such this alert is likely to be updated and refined in the coming days to better represent individual features. There is the potential for disruption throughout this period due to the accumulating snow and ice but also with temporary blizzard conditions leading to very difficult driving conditions. For Sunday for our region but only towards the east currently.
  11. For the first time in about 4 years I am getting a little excited. For once (compared to other NW'lys) the showers seem to pep up a lot and due to the wind speed are hurrying themselves over us here in the NE - I am hopeful of at least a covering (staying in Chester-leStreet)
  12. Not often you see warnings for Wind, Rain, Snow and Ice together! haha nice one Metoffice ...
  13. Winds cross the border look like they've been severe in places! It was howling here last night really loud night and we are no where near the main event really. Local news saying the Military Road in Northumberland recorded 70mps gusts here and Carlisle Racecourse suffered some damage - mainly a wall collapsing. So all in all a very interesting period of weather. It's the next best thing when your'e craving cold and snow and don't get any! I hope the people affected by power cuts manage to get sorted soon!
  14. You couldn't make it up every region in the country under a warning apart from the northeast aaaaaaaaah you could lose the plot if it wasn't for all the food and drink lol
  15. Just want to say as won't get a chance later to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope you have a wonderful time! This thread has had me hooked for the past 4 years since the eventful winter of 2010. The posters (majority) are great and I know I can speak on behalf of everyone when I say without some of your input and explanations us novices would be non the wiser. Thank you guys (and mods) for helping to create probably the best weather forum on the net and here's to hoping we get a nice huge slice of ice pie very soon! Merry Christmas :-)
  16. As we know though we don't need an SSW for cold to these parts. It's just one factor in a minefield of possibilities. I agree it would appear better for one to surface soon but let's keep our feet on the ground.EDIT: PM beat me too it :-)
  17. I think some need to remember that the models don't make the weather they simply give some trends albeit some perform better than others. The weather will do what it pleases in the end. Interrun chopping and changing happens and can easily flip back to more favoured solutions if you are looking for cold that is. Prozac needs to be taken I think. As others have said the NH profile is looking conductive for something and I would say unless we are guaranteed blow torch SW winds at T0 then chill a little. This is after all the START of winter.
  18. I know what people are saying about the possible disruption but seriously if that chart verifies any where close to that I will be one happy NW member :-) :-)
  19. Agree even if it is ever so slight - feels very oppressive this way currently - to be fair even some fresh rain would be great!
  20. Well after a promising start in the Northeast the cells have almost died out - next chance is as the Convergence Zone shifts east to try and initiate some convective stuff. Great stuff around EA and the far SE of England at the minute! Send some this way you lot...
  21. Same here HC - feels far more humid and muggy than previous days although yesterday was unbearable as it was just grey murk and warm..
  22. Yes there's a couple of potent little cells right near there which is what is producing it. Good stuff though!
