  1. Pure and Simple! Temperature is dropping here...down to 0.4c We are actually in danger of seeing a frost tonight if it carries on like this!
  2. Good Lord! I can see why an amber weather warning has been issued! If London was going to be hit by this, I'm sure the warning would be Red! On a serious note, I can see that some people are worried about snow conditions being marginal this time around, but I do feel that tomorrow's event has the potential to be the most severe of this cold spell so far with a high wind chill and no real mild conditions forecast until Sunday. I certainly wouldn't want to be travelling too far tomorrow evening / night lets put it that way. Wrap up warm folks...
  3. The forecast for later on tomorrow looks quite tasty for our region in terms of snowfall before the inevitable thaw sets in over the weekend. Heavy snowfall, drifting and strong winds are all mentioned on tomorrow's forecast so I fully expect an amber warning to be issued for us before the day is out!
  4. Not really a big thaw here as such. Temperature has risen a little in the last few hours though, now up to 1.0c. The temperatures forecast for tonight at anywhere between -3c and -8c look woefully wide of the mark however!
  5. Yes I have just noticed that, but I think its moving North / North East though so not for us I don't think.
  6. Yes I'm sure it will dive South East at the last minute bringing a severe Easterly gale and blizzard conditions nationwide...did I say that out loud?! Must stop hopecasting / fantasising lol!
  7. The forecast for tonight for our region looks a tad optimistic snow wise given that the majority of the snow has already moved away to the north; Headline: Snow and Ice. Bitterly cold in strong winds. This Evening and Tonight: Snow continuing, some heavy, giving further significant accumulations, especially away from coasts. Strong southeasterly winds causing drifting, very poor visibility and making it bitterly cold in a severe frost. Snow perhaps lighter and more sporadic in the south later. Icy. Minimum Temperature -6 °C. Tuesday: Snow, with sleet along the coast, gradually becoming lighter and more sporadic, the winds easing but staying very cold with temperatures below freezing away from the coast. Maximum Temperature 1 °C. Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Occasional light snow inland, with rain or sleet near the coast, especially on Wednesday. Some bright intervals developing. Very cold, sharp frosts, widespread ice and perhaps freezing fog patches overnight. Issued at: 1600 on Mon 21 Jan 2013
  8. Yawn...I'm 30 miles or so to the South of you and I'm expecting some decent snow tonight...check out the radar!
  9. Where has this appeared from on the latest NAE for tomorrow morning? Looks interesting for Pennine areas ahead of the main 'event' tomorrow night?
  10. Lol I think his post may have been somewhat sarcastic?! Showers really pepping up now...
  11. Shower activity picking up around the Humber and beginning to head inland on the ENE wind?
  12. At the risk of going off topic I don't think we should 'expect' several consecutive ice days and continuous snow cover in January in lowland UK surely? Anyway, here are some ensembles IMBY to keep my post on topic; A few GFS ensembles even keep the deep cold going out into the extended range...sorry I stop clutching those straws now!
  13. Maybe this is the reason for the heavy snow forecast for South Yorks tomorrow morning?
  14. We shall see. I do agree that later on Sunday looks better for us though at the moment.
  15. Well its still snowing now and has been for a few hours but I know what you mean! Look at the latest GFS run as an example; If the Easterly which kicks in during the early hours remains unstable enough heavy snow showers should move into South Yorks as per the METO forecast; http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/yh/barnsley_forecast_weather.html Fingers crossed!
  16. Temperature is -1.4c here with 'glitter' snow still falling. Around 3 inches or so I reckon. Beautiful! FIngers crossed for more overnight...
  17. I'm not an expert and I cannot guarantee snow for South Yorks tonight but if the winds back Easterly then the cold uppers and the North Sea should do the rest. There is no high ground to stop the westward movement of the showers so they should sail up the Humber and easily reach Pennine areas. That's the theory anyway...as ever radar watching and lamp post viewing will be our best bet! Just passing through Wakefield on the train at the moment and it looks quite festive with moderate snow and quite large flakes.
  18. All these whining posts about non-events, no snow here and no snow there just crack me up! The 'event' is still in progress as we speak...the main band may reach us it may not. It matters not though as there is nothing we can do to change things. All I will say is that those showers that are currently in and around the Yorkshire coast will only move further and further inland as we go through tonight and into tomorrow, so I am fully expecting quite a snowy night tonight in my area. Later on Sunday is also looking VERY interesting for our region with a period of snow moving up from the South East looking to bring us further accumulations. So just chill out people and enjoy the weekend. I have a feeling it will be pretty special if you are a cold and snow lover living in Yorkshire / Lincs (except for Adam LUFC's heat island of course where all the snow will have melted, the sun will be shining and the temperature will reach 30c...only joking Adam!)
  19. I wouldn't worry about the GFS yet. It couldn't smell the coffee at 48 hours out at the start of this cold spell! UKMO and ECM have been more consistent lately so I will stick with their output for now. Now I'm off to find my snow....
  20. Heavier snow fringing the South of our region during tomorrow afternoon according to latest NAE, but showers beginning to move inland off the coast; Heavier snow / snow showers moving inland tomorrow evening;
  21. Latest NAE hot off the press shows light snow overnight persisting over South Western regions of Yorkshire; Then staying in the South of the region during Friday morning;
  22. I'm not an expert but that seems an inaccurate statement to me! Which forecasters have suggested this? Lots of snow showers 'should' pack into Yorkshire on the strengthening Easterly wind this weekend.
  23. Lovely unexpected snowfall today. A centimetre or so already on the deck and its still falling. 'Get the cold in place and the snow will follow'
