Looks like anyone wishing for cold is going to have to wait a little longer... The signs from a couple of days back looked pretty decent, but i fear some members are not taking into account how strong and dominant this W or W/SW flow has been pretty much from the start of winter. 4th / 5th - The next potential for anything remotely colder comes around the 8th January... Although, running the frame 24 hours it gets replaced by this: The next potential for anything comes from this chart: Cold fans might like the look of this, but in my opinion, they way the Atlantic has been, I can only see that being replaced by uppers of +5 again ! A bleak outlook for anything seriously cold & snowy with the odd frost here and there, and potential for Wintry in the usual suspect places. I feel anyone searching for that first proper Winter Cold Spell is going to have to wait until at least the second half of January, or are we staring down the Barrel of a Mild dominated Winter ?? Who knows, but only time will tell ! Glenn. -

Hi Steve, I always used to think this was true as well, until reading: http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/32149-gfs-12z-and-0z-runs-compared-to-6z-and-18z-runs/ Take a look at DTK's post, sums it up nicely. -

It's true... Missing Data etc is complete nonsense. It's true there is a few niggles with the 06Z and 18Z, but nothing where we can say "Bin it, it's the 18Z / pub run" -

Severe Atlantic Storms Over The Christmas Period #2
R.P. McMurphy replied to Liam J's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Welcome to Net-Weather Reindeer. It sure if powerful & wet out there ! Keep an eye on the huge Squall Line Britstol - Derby, it's got a small LEWP type going on there, and for those that don't know, a LEWP can often spawn a Tornado.. Something we don't want ! It seems they are popping up a little more often now too.- 986 replies

Possible severe Atlantic storms over the Christmas period
R.P. McMurphy replied to Coast's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
It wouldn't be a breeze, but it wouldn't be strong for the South on that chart either, that's pure northern wind power! The Mb being lower does not mean higher wind speeds either, it's the tightness of the isobars. -

Ouch... For those that don't remember... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braer_Storm_of_January_1993 I would say we could expect the same, potentially... -

A lot of differences on the pertubations at the moment for the next LP System (27th)... A SUPER Channel Low here...Bad for the south... While Pert 3 goes for something a little different... Albeit both options are horrible. -

It's actually well Spotted PIP... There is signs that the Arctic High is building and could move over Greenland, especially with small heights currently building there. Sorry mods, a little off topic there, but just throwing in my two cents...
