Usually we get a good Easterly showing only to find it gets watered down or vanishes altogether as we get closer so maybe the opposite will happen and it will upgrade in the days ahead and turn out to be a massive big stonking one ❄

Yes, from when it was first mentioned that Christmas period was looking very interesting.... You only have to go back through the previous hunt for cold thread.. Its only my opinion, I won't loose any sleep over it and yes January suits me fine as it's a proper winter month. Would prefer Jan or Feb anytime over March. ?

But it has happened in previous winters.. Just the way it goes I suppose.. The weather will do what it wants to do...

I'm really hoping this cold spell comes off, I'm sure it was first going to be the week before Christmas and then between Christmas and New year and then the start of January and now I keep hearing mid January onwards. It's definitely looking good but so many winters I've seen this pattern where the date keeps getting pushed further and further ahead and before you know it...... Let's hope come Christmas the models start to show some exciting charts ..

Love your Posts by the way and being a skier I'm very jealous when I see your photos lol... Although the models don't look so good after the weekend I just look back to earlier in the year when we had the SSW event and I remember you and other members going on about it and that things looked very good for cold and snow in the very near future . The models were having none of it of course and were showing a drab outlook for as far as you could see 10 days + yet suddenly one evening a couple of days later one of the models picked up on it and it was a complete change to a cold outlook and in a short time frame.... Next thing we knew was the Beast was on it's way to the UK... We know what followed... ❄❄❄❄

Hi Roger, love reading your post on here. Going back to your above post from back at the end of November, do you still have the same view on how you think December will turn out? Is it still looking on track to you? Looking at the models we seem to be looking at the Atlantic in control for a while yet sadly. Just hope we eventually get a strong enough block in the correct place to bring us what most of us crave ?☺❄ Many Thanks Roger.

People keep saying how good the Russian high can be for us but I find all it seems to do every time is stalls the Atlantic weather somewhere over the UK and keeps us in the milder pattern... I'm only an amateur but could someone explain to me how a Russian high can help to deliver cold to the UK please... I understand with a scandy High and a Greenland High and an Atlantic high lol but I can't remember seeing a Russian high bring us cold or snow although I do have a short term memory.... Sorry what did I say..

I agree usually once the Atlantic breaks through it does usually last weeks and weeks but like you say it hasn't yet.. This year has been very different to all the other years and the Atlantic weather hasn't been able to last more than a couple of weeks at a time with the usual onslaught of low pressure systems. Even the active hurricane season didn't last for to long when we got all the ex hurricanes over our neck of the woods. I think it's just a relax in the cold but not for to long..

If you remember we went straight from winter and cold into summer with hot weather so maybe a straight switch back again to the cold looking at what the models are showing ..... ☺

It would be good to hear the experts thoughts on these repeating patterns like the NW and sliding LP systems across the UK for an extended period like you pointed out and now repeating Easterly patterns with scandy Highs keep reappearing and now possibly for a 3rd time in as many weeks... it can't just be coincidence!!! Just what are the drivers??? SSW but what El's.. .
