  1. Safe to say that even if we get there, I think we'll struggle to get back that night. Hotel looks a better idea and then travel on Sunday afternoon back to the NE.
  2. If there's an item on Look North tomorrow about a frustrated dad having gone insane and trying to dig himself a path to Old Trafford to watch the FA Cup game with his son... you'll know exactly who it is.
  3. It's been disgusting out there for something like 36 hours or more now. Just horrible.
  4. I might revise my "let's go over the N Pennines to Manchester to avoid the M62" idea...
  5. I might go the Weardale > Hartside > Lakes > Manchester kamikaze route. Wish me luck!
  6. WHen is that mainly due to fall? Friday? Sat? Sun?
  7. That's how I'm seeing it. Right now the worst of it looks like overnight Friday to Saturday. If they can clear it, then I should be OK as it doesn't look as bad during the day. Realistically I can leave anytime from 7am to 3pm. Gives me a bit of a window. Might end up just gauging the radar and traffic reports on google maps.
  8. OK guys. I need to drive to Manchester on Saturday. Need to get there by 4pm. Thoughts on whether I'll be able to? Should be possible to avoid awful snow and roads should be OK? I'm currently thinking that if the S of the region looks bad/Leeds, I could head over via Cumbria and then down. Thoughts?
  9. Reckon it'll still be decent tomorrow morning?
  10. Gilesgate (Durham), about 45 mins ago. Nice way to end the spell.

  12. I've lost count of how many days we've had snow falling this winter. As mentioned above, what has made this winter stand out is just how many snow events there have been. They've not been huge, aside from this week, but it's been far more frequent than in recent memory.
  13. Going to be touch and go here to the East of Durham. Reckon it might slip between us and the coast.
  14. The bushes have drips on them now rather than fresh snow. What's falling is snow indeed, but the thaw is on.
  15. The snow seems much more marginal looking at what has accumulated on the windscreen.
  16. Went to the Pennines in the end. Should have gone to Teesdale, but there wasn't time, so settled for Weardale. Couple of shots...
  17. Going to be difficult to get out and about to see the drifts given the forecast. Hate travelling up the A1 on a Saturday, but the Pennines look like getting some snow today... tomorrow looks way too snowy up there to travel, whilst the rain might do for the drifts north of Newcastle... Currently thinking it might be better to head up into the Pennines on Monday day.
  18. I'm caught... that's some great advice and info about awesome drifts around Amble kind of area/distance... but I won't lie, from here in Durham it can be a pain getting there... whereas the Dales are easy to get to. Don't want to make the trip up there to find it's nothing as good as you guys have shown/described in Northumberland though.
  19. Great pics! Reminds me of the main Teesdale road in March 2013.
  20. I'm thinking of heading up to the Pennines tomorrow with the kids. Likely to be the best drifts up there? Or should I head north of Newcastle?
  21. Quite. Really does underline just how great Nov/Dec 2010 was.
  22. I'll look out for reports overnight of a desperate dad stranded in his car in Northumberland, mumbling something incoherent about a missed pint...
  23. SO nothing at all overnight... nothing in the N Sea. Anything expected today?
