There are over 100 channels on my freeview. There are countless videos in every area of human knowledge and culture on YouTube. There are innumerable sites of wonder and interest on every topic known to humankind online. And I am fixated on a vague blob on a radar that might not exist.

Unless they're heading pretty much directly West, I can't see them hitting south of Newcastle. Need the temperature to fall. I'm completely baffled as to why we're above zero.

As it stands, I still put Nov/Dec 2010 above this for the length of the spell, the sheer weigh and volume of the snow, the fact it was all big flakes, and the fact the Wear froze over! LOVE the blizzards this time, though. That, for me, is the defining feature of this spell.

How are we looking for Friday into Sat? Didn't someone say there's the chance of bigger flakes in slower moving showers?

Does anyone have any idea what the maximum depths/drifts are? Northumberland must have some huge totals.

Guys... just to reiterate: what a period of weather. I'm rarely venturing into more general UK threads, though it appears we have done particularly well. Above all I love the fact that we have not just had loads of snow (13" here!), but that we tend to get the most brutal conditions. Love it. Love the NE. I'm already planning my family trip up into the Pennines to see the mountains of snow at the weekend...

I agree. The same areas tend to get the streamers/biggest showers. The accumulation charts show this. The conclusion I reached a few years ago is that it must have something to do with the region's topography.

I think we got a lot last night. Just checked the radar and yep. It's really piled up out there. Still snowing hard.

These streamers are not running completely E-W so I don't think anyone will be under one for a long time. Anyway, I need some sleep!
